Senior Systems Administrator
Job description
The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for assisting the project team in designing, planning, implementing, performance tuning and developing recovery procedures for mission critical enterprise systems. Serves as a technical expert in the area of system administration for complex systems.
Recommends the redesign and configuration of systems and system applications. Investigates and analyzes feasibility of system requirements and develops system specifications. Identifies methods, solutions, and provides guidance to the organization to meet both the current needs of the organization and long-term corporate and departmental strategic objectives.
**** This is a hybrid role and candidates must live in the Jacksonville, FL area. This position is not 100% work from home.
Responsibilities:
- Accountable for the day-to-day operations of Alivia Care, Inc.’s host systems by monitoring system performance and configuration and performing necessary adjustments to ensure the high availability and acceptable levels of performance of mission critical host systems and enterprise applications.
- Guide or provide work direction to technical staff and contract staff.
- Perform general maintenance and apply revisions to host system’s firmware and software. Works with vendors to assist support activities.
- Establishes, maintains and manages users’ accounts and security groups. Installs, modifies and maintains systems and utility software on host systems. Provides server support related to other software.
- Establishes guidelines and methods for the installation and management of the host operating systems, disk arrays, SANs, switches, and other components.
- Develops procedures to maintain security and protect systems from unauthorized use, acts of nature and user abuse.
- Develops procedures, programs and documentation for backup and restoration of host systems and host-based applications.
- Develops new system and application implementation plans, custom scripts and testing procedures to ensure operational reliability. Trains technical staff in how to use new software and hardware developed and/or acquired.
- Develops and coordinates project directions with engineers or software developers to maximize benefits and minimize impacts on the customer organizations. Provides leadership in planning and implementation of projects for computer operations and enterprise systems administration.
- Collaborate with technical teams to resolve complex technical issues as they arise. As such, leads problem-solving efforts often involving outside vendors and other support personnel and/or organizations.
- Stays current with technological developments in systems administration technology and recommends ways to take advantage of new technology.
Extensive Experience and Knowledge in the Following Areas:
- Various configurations and security of a virtualized VMware environment.
- Enhancement, maintenance and administration of a predominantly, but not limited to, Windows environment.
- User and security administration in a Windows environment.
- Monitoring applications and system diagnostic tools.
- Installation and management of SAN and NAS devices.
- Maintenance and administration of a predominantly Cisco environment, including switching, routing, security, wireless and unified communications.
- Ability to organize technical material, analyze a wide variety of technical facts and develop appropriate recommendations.
- Ability to provide and validate hardware/software requirements for the proposed systems.
- Solid understanding of security concerns and considerations for the technical design and deployment of business applications.
- Solid understanding of scalability and performance considerations for the technical design and deployment of business applications to support significant peak volume of activity.
- Ability to evaluate current or emerging technologies and consider factors such as cost, portability, compatibility, or usability.
- Ability to verify stability, interoperability, portability, security, or scalability of host systems.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/ Information Technology or related field.
- 4 years of experience working as a full-time systems administrator in a large or medium sized company.
Preferred Requirements:
- 7 or more years of experience engineering, implementing and managing an enterprise system.
- VMWare certification or equivalent.
- Microsoft Server certification or equivalent.
- Experience with Windows Domain that includes Windows, Unix and Linux Server OSes.
- Experience with Microsoft Active Directory, Citrix XenApp environment, and Microsoft Exchange Server.
- Knowledge and understanding of ITIL, formal Change Management, Configuration Management and Release Management.
- Knowledge and understanding of software development environments and tools.
