Wells Lamont Industrial (WLI) is implementing a new growth strategy which relies heavily on the innovation and development of new protective gloves and sleeves. The vision is for WLI to be a leader in differentiated new products and technologies for the Industrial workplace (e.g., Food Processing, Critical Environment, Transportation, Metal Fab, Machinery & Equipment, etc.)

The Product Manager (PM) has ownership and accountability for the overall growth strategy and life cycle management of his/her assigned product category including key functional processes such as user segmentation, applications/tasks mapping, needs identification, product development, stage gate management, overseas supplier management, product positioning, promotion and branding. Value is created by bridging the gap between unmet user needs and differentiated product solutions that are grounded in unique Wells Lamont competencies and capabilities.

  • Effectively manages the life cycle of their assigned product lines and portfolio from discovery and innovation, to new product planning, new product introduction, post-launch product management, and product retirement.

  • Leads the product strategy for his/her assigned product lines, working with Sales, Vertical Development Managers, Operations, Management and Supplier Partners.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of marketing and product management disciplines necessary for building business plans, product plans, and marketing plans. Utilizes market trends, customer needs, and competitive positioning to develop preferred product offerings for targeted segments and channels.

  • Understands methods available to execute user needs assessments that are necessary to drive product line/portfolio decisions. Where needed, helps identify market opportunities through primary and secondary market research and take action by implementing and managing solutions that meet customer needs.

  • Leads the translation of market and customer needs (user) across multiple Industrial verticals (Transportation, Metals Fabrication, Machinery, Oil & Gas, Critical Environment, Food Processing, etc.) and workplace applications into clearly defined product requirements and product line strategy.

  • Identifies and proactively takes action to capitalize on current market trends. Determines product lifecycle implications and makes decisions to drive market competitiveness and to achieve sustainable economic success.

  • Maintains awareness of competitive products, potential competitive products, competitors, and competitor capabilities. Actively collects and analyzes data on competitive products to benchmark the WLI portfolio and guide the development of new WLI products.

  • Establishes product line performance metrics and reporting in order to keep management and the organization informed of results against plan.

  • Provides product support (in-person or video conference) for key customer meetings and leads internal as well as external product training where needed.

  • Develops, implements and communicates how-to-win and where-to-play strategies by using tools like 80/20 to provide the best opportunity for success.

  • Ensures that all promotional, launch, and marketing activities align with the overall product line strategy and facilitate proper communication and collaboration with all WLI functions and stakeholders.

  • Demonstrate basic financial acumen and logical decision making in the general business environment. Support the development of business cases, investment requests, forecasting, pricing, and assessing strategic options.

  • Influences and works collaboratively with cross-functional teams including R&D, sourcing, manufacturing, Sales, customer service, DMG, finance, quality, legal, demand planning, and others.

  • Takes informed risk and action. Proactive approach vs. reactive.

Qualifications include:

  • BS or MS in Engineering, Science, Marketing, BA in Business or other related areas.
  • 5 to 10 years of professional experience in a related field.
  • Prior glove experience particularly in the Industrial PPE market is preferred. Textiles experience also a big plus.
  • Experience managing large, complex product portfolios
  • Successful track record of leading innovation and the commercialization of new products.
  • Strong leader with excellent project management and problem-solving skills.
