Job Description
INTRODUCTION:
We develop our software solutions in an agile, dynamic environment, and we constantly strive to use the best technologies to achieve our purpose. ABC Fitness Solutions is looking to expand our DevOps team with a highly motivated and talented principal engineer who is passionate about automation and developer enablement. ABC has created a modern and cloud native architecture using cloud native tools such as Kubernetes and Terraform on Amazon Web Services. WHAT YOU’LL DO:

Architect and guide technical direction to support and improve our automation and developer experience using Kubernetes on Amazon Web Services (AWS)
-
Analyze anomalies and instability in the development and production environments to recommend improvements to platforms and processes to build a better ABC
-
Collaborate with management and team leads (Product Owners, DBAs, Development, Architecture, Analysts) to create solutions and document direction using a combination of design documents, wiki articles, and stories or epics in an agile development environment
-
Provide guidance for development staff on cloud native and secure coding best practices
-
Bring recommendations to improve the business’s SDLC with automation
-
Be available as an escalation contact to provide 24x7 application support, incident management, and troubleshooting
WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
-
Strong skills in a containerized, microservices based infrastructure (We use Kubernetes)
-
Expert with Infrastructure as Code tools (Terraform, Helm, Cloud Formation)
-
Experience building and maintaining modern Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines (Jenkins, Harness, Spinnaker)
-
Experience architecting and designing monitoring solutions for complex software systems
-
Ability to bridge cloud architecture with a private datacenter footprint
-
A passion to stay in touch with the industry evolution keep our platforms and systems in alignment with industry trends and emerging solutions
-
Experience supporting a highly available, large scale production environment
-
Experience deploying and managing microservices created with 12-factor design principles
-
Track record of successful practical problem solving, excellent written and interpersonal communication, and documentation skills
-
Ability to thrive in an environment where you prioritize tasks and work independently
-
Ability to bring soft skills to contentious discussions to generate optimal outcomes
-
Ability to recognize when to balance business outcomes with platform goals and standards; Perfection is the enemy of perfectly adequate

Ability to communicate and collaborate with remote team members and contract teams that are geographically dispersed
AND IT'S GREAT TO HAVE:

Certified Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) Certification
-
AWS Certified DevOps Engineer – Professional Certification
-
Having been the go-to person for finding root causes and troubleshooting environment instability
-
Experience in and securing a compliance and control environment (PCI, SOC, GDPR)
-
Experience supporting or architecting an infrastructure lifecycle management system for data retention policies
-
Proficiency or experience writing or understanding Java, Spring, and the JVM at scale
-
Experience with end-to-end testing of Infrastructure as Code, specifically Terraform
-
Ability to design cost-efficient systems within a public cloud environment
-
Ability to recognize when custom scripting (Bash, Python, Go) should be used vs applying an open source or paid solution to a problem
