SUMMARY
Advanced professional level planning.
In the event of a natural or man-made disaster that may threaten the area, the employee will be required to perform emergency duties as directed.
This position requires public interaction or regular appearances before the Board of County Commissioners and therefore does not permit a claim for protection of your place of work if you will be claiming an exemption from Public Records under Chapter 119, Florida Statutes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES / KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AMD ABILITIES

Develops long range planning projects.
Plans and schedules work programs.
Establishes time frames for completion of work.
Performs as project manager for special studies, projects and plans.
Assists in data collection and analysis.
Assists the general public and other agencies with planning related information.
Reviews studies conducted by other agencies.
Confers with civic leaders, government officials, resident groups and homeowners' associations to identify issues, goals and objectives, and to discuss alternate plans for meeting physical, social and economic needs.
Provides technical and advisory assistance to local governments and agencies in matters of comprehensive planning, development and regulatory codes and ordinances and transportation planning.
Prepares agendas and backup for monthly meetings and special subcommittee meetings as required.
Participates in public meetings and public hearings that can be televised to provide development review or comprehensive planning of development activities or code violations.
Develops improved work methods to accelerate formulation and completion of planning programs and projects.
May be assigned to review and monitor medium to high complexity and minor development applications and assist in reviewing major development applications, for compliance with the land development regulations.
May be assigned to assist with street and subdivision naming for new site plans and plats in compliance with the Land Development Regulations

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the principles, methods and practices of urban and regional planning.
Knowledge of recent developments, current literature and sources of information regarding urban and regional planning.
Knowledge of statistics, and of technical writing standards.
Knowledge of the political, social and economic implications of planning.
Ability to supervise planning studies and to formulate recommendations for planning standards.
Ability to interpret planning and zoning laws and administrative rules to other government officials and the public.
Ability to supervise assigned professional and technical employees.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master's Degree in Urban and/or Regional Planning or closely related field and (2) years' experience in professional planning work.
Additional qualifying education and/or experience which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities may be substituted one for the other on a year for year basis.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must possess a valid Florida Driver's License
Certification by the American Institute of Certified Planners preferred.

Pay: $58,345.00 - $77,814.00 per year
