The Position
To effectively manage and support the Corporate Tax Mission of ensuring a competitive level of tax in a responsible way. The position will focus on transfer pricing, maximization of tax incentives and partnering with the business to identify and support tax planning opportunities.
Relationship:
Position reports to Director of Tax at Novo Nordisk Inc. (NNI). As part of NNI Finance, continual interaction with line of business personnel at North America and parent country affiliates as well as Global Business Service Center (GBS) in Bangalore, India, and headquarters tax. Position will interact with external auditors, tax advisors and outside professionals, as necessary.
Essential Functions
Transfer Pricing:Act as primary point of contact for transfer pricing with regard to U.S. affiliates.
Manage U.S. Advance Pricing Agreement (APA) process including preparation of the application, negotiations with taxing authorities, and execution of the APA.
Ensure achievement of U.S. operating margin targets as required by arms-length standards or APAs in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley controls.
Ensure timely and accurate internal and external transfer pricing reporting including completion of forecasted and actual calculations and setting of transfer prices.
Ensure proper and timely accounting for monthly intercompany service revenue and related account reconciliations.
Support business development initiatives by implementing transfer pricing policies for new affiliates in alignment with corporate TP strategy.
Identify and advise Line of Business on transfer pricing challenges, as required.
Responsible for appropriate documentation of transfer pricing calculations and addressing inquiries of internal stakeholders and external financial auditors.
Support NNI Legal with governmental inquiries.
Tax Planning:Partner with business and commercial functions to proactively identify and implement efficient tax planning strategies.
Proactively advise and communicate with management on status and outcomes of planning initiatives.
Research tax issues that are assigned or arise in the support of the business and provide tax advice and recommendations as appropriate.
Liaise with Treasury team to ensure tax optimization of capital structure and repatriation initiatives.
Coordinate with Tax Operations team to ensure that tax initiatives are accurately and timely reported and disclosed on the tax return.
Support Tax Operations team on tax audits as a subject matter expert with respect to tax planning initiatives.
Tax Incentives:Identification and quantification of Federal credit or incentive opportunities arising from tax legislation.
Ensure proper documentation of newly identified credit and incentive claims for tax files.
Ensure that initiatives identified are fully transitioned to Tax Operations team.
Coordinate with Tax Operations team to ensure that tax initiatives are accurately and timely reported and disclosed on the tax return.
Support tax audits inquiries concerning credits and incentives, as necessary.
Other Functions:Support ad hoc projects as required by local, regional, or global stakeholders.
Assist with the maintenance and update of process documentation for all responsibilities.
Develop best practices and continuous improvement of processes within functional responsibilities.
Serve as daily contact for internal stakeholders regarding matters concerning assigned responsibilities, as required.
Ensure proper development of indirect reports assigned to assist with completion of responsibilities.
Physical Requirements
0-10% overnight travel required
Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree is required, preferably in Business Administration, Accounting, Economics or Finance. CPA license or advanced degree highly desired
A minimum of 8 years corporate tax experience and a balance of both public accounting and private industry experience highly desired
Pharmaceutical industry experience is preferred
Prior experience with transfer pricing and cross-border transactions is desirable
Strong analytical, organizational, and project management skills; strong attention to detail.
The ability to work independently on complex tax issues with knowledge of applicable rules and requirements
Proficiency in tax technology as well as MS Office products with a high aptitude for databases and spreadsheets for use in tax applications. Knowledge of SAP is desirable
Strong oral and written communication skills with all levels of organization
Ability to effectively manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced matrix environment
