Overview:
The Senior Director, Strategies for Health Equity is responsible for directing and overseeing the strategic implementation and management of programs and activities within the Strategies for Health Equity Department, including the Committee on Health Care for Underserved Women, the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Prevention Program, and reproductive health access programs and projects focusing on abortion, contraception, and pregnancy loss. Oversees all aspects of the programs, including financial/budget management, administrative oversight, and volunteer and personnel management. Positively influences behavior of direct reports and encourages internal and external collaborative relationships to achieve programmatic and organizational goals.

The Senior Director, Strategies for Health Equity is responsible for directing and overseeing the strategic implementation and management of programs and activities within the Strategies for Health Equity Department, including the Committee on Health Care for Underserved Women, the Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) Prevention Program, and reproductive health access programs and projects focusing on abortion, contraception, and pregnancy loss. Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the strategic vision, direction, and alignment across all organizational stakeholders and partners on the advancement of health equity and reproductive health care. Assess strengths, opportunities, and gaps, provide solutions, and ensure alignment with organizational goals.
- Develop innovative initiatives to transform and advance ACOG’s efforts.
- Participate in ACOG’s policy and project development with other Divisions for issues of overlapping interest; review materials for conformity with ACOG policies and guidelines on health equity and reproductive health care.
- Serve as a trusted advisor and act as a subject matter expert, providing leadership research, care quality interventions, and resources to inform decision making.
- Advise and represent executive leadership, as requested, on matters related to health equity and reproductive health care.
- Engage and nurture partnerships and close relations with key funders, including but not restricted to, professional foundations and other stakeholders working in public health.
- Oversee and administer foundation and federal grant and cooperative agreements as applicable in support of program activities, including development and submission of proposals and reports, coordination with Finance and Compliance for budget development and tracking, and program evaluation.
- Attend meetings, advocate for ACOG’s interests and interpreting and reporting on issues.
- Coordinate ACOG’s review and response to documents developed by other organizations; maintain awareness of content and policy issues affecting the specialty regarding clinical care and professional behavior; respond to Fellows, outside organizations, and individuals regarding ACOG’s policies on these issues.
- Proactively promote ACOG’s policies to internal and external stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain effective liaison relationships with other organizations and agencies.
- Supervise and manage assigned staff. Provide guidance, mentoring, and leadership. Create an inclusive environment, hold employees accountable, ensure completion of assigned tasks, resolve conflicts, conduct annual performance evaluations and provide professional development opportunities.
- Develop, implement, facilitate, and embed health equity strategic initiatives into every aspect of our programs, services, actions, outcomes, and staff culture.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in public health or related fields preferred.
- Minimum of 12 years of related experience required, including 5 or more years of progressively responsible program management experience in medical or public health education, training, outreach, or advocacy programs.
- Budget management experience
- Experience in family planning, including efforts to improve access to abortion, required.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a growing portfolio of equity initiatives.
- Understanding of the health care needs of underserved populations and individual and community approaches that support health behavior change.
- Knowledge of and experience with implementation of strategies to address systemic health inequities in reproductive health..
- Experience with development and management of foundation and federal program grants, including conceptualizing programs, budget development and tracking, program evaluation, and compliance with funder reporting requirements.
- Demonstrated skill in designing, implementing, and evaluating medical or public health education and outreach activities, materials, and events for a variety of audiences and distribution channels.
- Excellent supervisory and leadership skills.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment, prioritize and implement multiple projects and responsibilities, and collaborate effectively with internal and external partners.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated public speaking skills and ability to communicate with diverse audiences.
- Ability to travel, at times overnight and for several days.
