Overview:
The Facilities Division of OVG360 has an exciting opening for a Senior Director of Operations on the campus of Arizona State University for the new 5,000 seat multi-purpose arena and community ice rink. The new Mullett Arena opened in October 2022 and is the home to ASU Sun Devil Men’s Ice Hockey, ASU Wrestling and Women’s Athletics programs, the NHL Arizona Coyotes, as well as variety of events, including concerts, family shows, comedy and other live events. The new community ice rink will serve as a public venue to the community and will host hockey and skating programming, youth competitions, educational opportunities and more.

The position reports directly to the General Manager. The Senior Director of Operations will direct, supervise, and schedule all aspects of the operations department, including full-time and part-time staff, operations crew, changeovers, stagehands, and housekeeping, while maintaining ADA compliance and working cooperatively with other departments to assure facility readiness and smooth operation of events. This is a client facing role so excellent communication skills are necessary to deliver a memorable experience to a diverse group of guests/clients in the youth, amateur/collegiate, professional, and special events space.
Responsibilities:
  • Develop operating procedures that conform to corporate standards, customized to the specific needs of the facility, and consistent with the goals and objectives of the client, facility, and corporation.
  • Oversight & management responsibility for all services and activities involved in the maintenance of the facility including HVAC, electrical, carpentry, and plumbing systems.
  • Manage and direct operations department supervisors and staff.
  • Review and evaluate operations department staff performance for advancement and compensation.
  • Direct and manage hiring of operations department staff.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with all facility departments.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual operating budget.
  • Know and ensure all laws, codes, ordinances, policies, procedures, risk management, safety precautions, rules/regulations and emergency procedures are followed.
  • Develop program to train all employees on fire/life safety and emergency procedures.
  • Plan, develop, and manage a Capital Improvement Program to ensure the timely repair & replacement of the facility’s infrastructure and equipment.
  • Conduct routine staff meetings to discuss procedures, problems, and enhancements.
  • Prepare and negotiate service agreements for HVAC Equipment, Ice Floor Refrigeration Equiment, Elevators, Boilers, Housekeeping services, and other operations agreements as needed.
  • Review contracts for compliance with event and/or government specifications and suitability for occupancy.
  • Rotate with other facility personnel to function as Manager on Duty (MOD), who maintains total responsibility and authority over all clients, staff personnel, patrons, security, and safety in assigned buildings.
  • Ensure contractual agreements are met and clients’ event requirements and changes are made in a timely fashion.
  • Plan, budget, and schedule facility’s modifications including cost estimates, bid sheets, layouts and contracts for construction and conversions.
  • Inspect conversions, construction, and installation progress to ensure conformance to established specifications.
  • Ensure facility’s fire and emergency safety systems are in operating order and compliant with all codes, ordinances, and laws.
  • Assist the General Manager and Assistant General Manager with daily oversight of the community ice rink, including all operations and housekeeping requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
The qualifications listed below represent the credentials necessary to perform the essential functions of this position.   • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university
  • 7-10 years related experience in the public assembly industry (stadiums, arenas, and/or convention centers). Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
  • 7-10 years experience managing and training personnel.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in operational procedures, facility capabilities, industry terminology, event-related services, and technical requirements for the types of events anticipated at the facility.
  • Experience in operating and working in a NCAA/Professional Arena
  • Experience in contract negotiations, budget preparation, and purchasing procedures.
  • Possess any licenses, certificates or training required by local, state, or national authorities for the operation of the equipment found in the facility.
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, drawings, and other related materials.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with clients, employees, exhibitors, patrons, and others encountered in the course of employment.
  • Operate equipment such as light trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, boom lifts, scrubbing machines or other light power-driven equipment.
  • Skilled in operating a personal computer using Windows and Microsoft Office software.
  • Experience and knowledge in managing and implementing a CMMS Program
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment including copier and fax machine.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and communicate effectively with other in both oral and written form.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and/or stringent schedule and produce accurate results.
  • Be licensed and insured to operate a motor vehicle in the United States.
  • Experience with AutoCAD is preferred
Working Conditions:
  • Minimal Travel (<10% travel): May be required to travel. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stay away from home for one or more nights.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule inclusive of weekends, nights and holidays required.
  • Frequent bending, lifting up to 50 pounds, sitting, standing, exposure to multiple external elements, extensive walking through the building including inclines and stairs.
