Michigan Sugar Company has an immediate full-time opportunity for a Senior Buyer, located at the Corporate Office in Bay City, MI.
Job Summary:
The Senior Buyer at Michigan Sugar provides parts, equipment, and materials by developing sources of supply and monitoring supplier performance.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Issue requests for quotes (RFQ) and select best source consistent with cost, quality and delivery requirements.
- Negotiate and manage long-term and short-term pricing agreements with suppliers.
- Responsible for completing and expediting purchase orders with domestic and international suppliers.
- Prepare purchase orders in accordance with company policy.
- Handle correspondence concerning over-shipments, delivery shortages, changes in quantity, delivery dates, and prices.
- Act as a liaison between suppliers and factories to resolve purchasing related problems.
- Process non-conforming material requests and RMA requests with suppliers.
- Resolve invoice issues and authorize purchases and payments as needed.
- Facilitate meetings with suppliers to ensure company requirements are met and suppliers are aware of any performance issues.
- Miscellaneous duties as assigned by management.
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Management, Procurement, Business Administration, Operations Planning or a related field.
- 5+ years of related purchasing experience including purchasing, inventory control, contract negotiation and supply management.
- Accomplished in strategic sourcing, commodity management and vendor qualification and development.
- Experienced in project management, working with Engineering, supporting timelines and milestones.
- Working knowledge of the legal aspects of purchasing and contract law.
- Peoplesoft experience beneficial.
