General Description
As Senior Art Director, you’ll create compelling imagery that elevates CPG’s design deliverables while coaching and developing our team of designers to do the same.
The Senior Art Director is responsible for the quality and execution of visual creative solutions and output of the design team, serving as the design team lead. At the direction of the Creative Director, the Senior Art Director oversees the design team’s creative process, ideation and execution of content to meet or exceed client expectations. They also are a key contributor to the pursuit and winning of new (and repeat) business through proposal design.
Leadership, creativity, and initiative are keys to success in this role. Superb communication and collaboration skills are required since the Senior Art Director works with the Sales/Marketing, Client and Experience teams to understand assignments, develop dynamic, cost-effective solutions and then subsequently manage a team of internal and external resources to meet project goals by providing direction and monitoring progress.
This position is part of the Creative Team and reports to the Creative Director. While this person plays a critical leadership role on the Creative Team, they do not have any direct reports.
Creative Team Objectives
The Creative Team has four key objectives:
- AMPLIFY: Effectively spread our clients’ messages throughout their organization through graphic design and interactive/web solutions.
- SUPPORT: Help all CPG departments offer professional communication solutions both internally and externally.
- COMMUNICATE: Support Marketing/New Business with tactile solutions that help demonstrate to potential clients our capabilities in an easy-to-understand format.
- DRIVE: Push the agency to step out of its comfort zone and to try new things creatively.
The Senior Art Director leads the design team - and participates - in achieving these objectives with the Creative Director.
Job Responsibilities
This position requires a blend of the following responsibilities and skills.
Strategic Creative Development
- Work collaboratively with the Creative Team to conceptualize and guide visual solutions that effectively communicate the objectives for client accounts
- Design/produce a wide range of materials to meet internal and external client objectives including custom proposals, brand logos, themed event graphics, presentation support
(Keynote and PowerPoint), digital design, campaigns and various print pieces
- Be recognized and utilized as a creative leader within the agency and by our clients
- Work with Creative Operations Manager to ensure that CPG provides the proper environment and necessary resources to consistently deliver a superior visual creative product while operating efficiently in a fast-paced setting
- Improve the overall quality of the agency’s visual portfolio, measured by (internal and external) client satisfaction
- Consult often with Creative Director to make sure creative is on strategy and exceeding expectations
Proposal Development
- Actively participate in the proposal development process resulting in measurable win rate
- Lead proposal design and production efforts
Team Leadership
- Serve as the key player on the design team.
- Assist in recruiting, onboarding and developing design talent
- Manage and direct the activities of freelance designers as needed.
Ideation/Brainstorms
- Lead or participate in team brainstorming and creative sessions
- Champion visual innovation and creative excellence at CPG
- Help develop innovative new visual concepts for the agency
- Remain a student of design, keeping up with trends and developments
Quality Assurance
- Review design deliverables for quality and accuracy prior to client or producer delivery
- Monitor QA process, standards and measures; educate design team on process
