Full-time position available with the Fire Department, Risk Management Division located at 635 Woodland Ave.
Salary Range: $20.48-$30.71/hour
Normal Work Days/Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.

Responsibilities
- Greets and assists customers upon their entry to the suite.
- Receives and responds to customers via the fire prevention division email and distributes to other personnel for proper management of the issue.
- Assists community risk reduction with outreach and meeting coordination.
- Coordinates the free smoke detector program and maintains that database.
- Assists in the record management of fire inspection files.
- Acts in a confidential capacity in related secretarial and office tasks to the Fire Marshal’s administrative staff.
- Organizes, files, indexes, and maintains records for various tasks and projects.
- Processes fire permits.
- Helps administer the inspection software system, including data management and verification of data accuracy.
- Produces reports of inspection information.
- Performs data entry for new businesses and change of contacts for existing businesses.
- Functions as a backup cashier to the Administrative Officer, performing duties of check and balances by examining bank statements and reconciling statements with internal ledgers daily.
- Maintains office supplies and places orders when appropriate.
- Updates forms, drafts form letters, and distributes mass mailings.
- Schedules and coordinates meetings and training events and assists in the evaluation of licensed businesses to verify the accuracy of inspection records.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
REQUIRES an accredited Bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration, liberal arts or a related field and at least 3 years progressively professional experience in governmental administration or in private sector administration at the level of the City's Administrative Assistant; OR an equivalent combination of qualifying education and experience.

The minimum education requirement for positions that allow for experience equivalency for an accredited degree is a high school diploma. Unless otherwise specified, an accredited degree must be obtained from a college or university listed with the U.S. Department of Education and recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education.
For positions with a salary grade of EX6 or higher that require an accredited degree, qualifying professional experience must be obtained AFTER the accredited degree is obtained.
Successful completion of a pre-employment criminal history/background check is required for all positions. Some positions require a post offer drug screen and/or physical.
If appointed, non-residents must obtain residency inside Kansas City, Missouri's city limits within nine months.
