Alabama State University, Business and Finance, invites applications to fill the Senior Accountant II position in Grants & Contracts Accounting. This position reports to the Chief Accountant, and performs advanced accounting duties according to established procedures, and regulations in Business and Finance.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform advanced accounting duties calling for the application of professional accounting techniques
  • Exercise judgment in allocating charges and credits to appropriate accounts
  • Prepare journal entries for unusual transactions
  • Assist with the preparation, review and coordination of A-133 audit work grant-related
  • Gives technical advice to subordinate accounting personnel in the performance of their work
  • Exercise independence, judgment in making decisions regarding interpretation of procedures and regulations
  • Assist the Chief Accountant in planning, directing, and supervising the work of accounting personnel and with the training of inexperienced accountants
  • Assist in supervising the electronic and manual posting of accounting information to control accounts from detained records
  • Help in modification/additions to the existing accounting system and operations
  • Analyze the variances in expenditure/revenue projection and prepare cash flow statements
  • Prepare adjusting journal entries, verifying current applications of accounting and mathematical accuracy
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly and semi-annual reports required by all Federal Agencies
  • Assist in supervising the maintenance of the accounting records and prepares required management reports
  • Assist with financial statement preparation
  • Help with special projects such as request for information form external agencies and internal departments, and perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related field, and 5 years of related experience OR Master's degree in Accounting/MBA or related field, and 2 years of related experience required.
