Job Summary:

The primary responsibility of the Security Resource Officer (SRO) is to build positive and trusting relationships with students and families in order to provide and maintain a safe learning environment for all students and staff. The SRO will report directly to the Principal. The SRO will collaborate with all stakeholders in an effort to build relationships, prevent crime, provide training on public safety topics, participate in safety training, and enforce the law appropriately.

Responsibilities & Duties:

• Develop crime prevention strategies within the school.
• Prevent unauthorized access to the school property.
• Speak at community events regarding public safety and school police topics.
• Serves as a law enforcement resource and visible presence in the school.
• Listen to issues students are having and make appropriate referrals to resources when necessary.
• Assist with providing traffic control during arrival and departure times
• Foster positive relationships with students and staff
• Protect the school against outside threats
• Interact with other law enforcement personnel
• Investigate criminal activity

Qualifications & Skills:

• Must be at least 21 years of age and possess a valid Indiana driver’s license with the ability to be insured by PPHS.
• Must be a certified law enforcement officer in the state of Indiana
• Experience working with K-12 school environment preferred
• Must be able to pass a physical fitness assessment
• Great written and verbal communication skills
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
• Sworn authority from a law enforcement agency required
• Must meet annual state mandated training by Indiana Law Enforcement Academy.
• Must be weapons certified and licensed to carry a firearm.
• Wear a distinguished law enforcement uniform when on campus when school is in session.
• Experience working with K-12 school environment preferred
• NASRO basic certification preferred
• 60 hours of school resource officer training and certified Indiana School Safety Specialist Academy preferred.

Work Environment:

• Monday - Friday, some evening and weekend work, onsite and off-site
• Bend, turn, twist, climb stairs, and stand periodically throughout the day

Minimum Salary $50,000
