Company Overview

Rolling Embers is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ember Enterprises, LLC, and was created to own and operate an adult-use cannabis store offering a wide variety of adult-use cannabis products in New Buffalo, Michigan. Rolling Embers will strive to provide exceptional products and customer service to become a one-of-a-kind cannabis destination and experience.

Position Summary

The Security Manager and Security Officers are responsible for overseeing the safety of staff and the security of the facility. The Security Manager is responsible for all security of the facility and its perimeter and will train all staff in basic security protocols. The Security Manager is also responsible for the security and safety of the consumption lounge and the immediate environment outside of the facility perimeter. The Security Manager will maintain strict vigilance for preventing the diversion and deviation of cannabis, cannabis products, branded collateral and/or accessories.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities

Due to the size of our organization, multiple members of the leadership team will wear multiple hats as it pertains to the below identified responsibilities and duties. In addition to the items identified in the Position Summary, the Security Manager is also responsible for:

Store Security and Security Personnel

  • Heightened attention to employee and customer safety/security
  • Ensuring all aspects of the company's security policies and practices are developed, implemented, and practiced
  • Conducting ongoing staff training
  • Overseeing the coordination and implementation of site security, operations, and activities to ensure protection of employees and customers while maintaining compliance with relevant regulations
  • Selecting, developing, training, and evaluating Security staff to ensure the efficient operation of the department
  • Overseeing the continuous monitoring and protection of facilities, personnel, and technology
  • Monitoring customer flow into and out of the store and consumption lounge
  • Confirming that no one enters the store and/or consumption lounge without proper identification and verification, at any time
  • Monitoring security personnel and assisting the management team with necessary scheduling and planning
  • Coaching problem solving and de-escalation practices with security personnel
  • Recognizing when customers or employees show signs of impairment while present within the store and/or consumption lounge
  • Being present during all product deliveries
  • Evaluating and reporting suspected security breaches and taking corrective action
  • Contacting local authorities as needed
  • Assisting management with any necessary inventory investigations or emergency situations
  • Assisting with the ongoing evaluation of workplace conditions, materials, equipment, and processes used to identify and control workplace hazards and other safety and health risks

Inventory Management

  • Be present for all inventory deliveries
  • Greet vendors at secure access point, check and verifies ID’s, issue visitor passes
  • Assist with any necessary inventory investigations and in-depth audits

Facilities Management

The Security Manager, in conjunction with the General Manager, is responsible for maintaining all aspects of the building that enable the business to operate. The Security Manager oversees interior construction, equipment maintenance, facility materials inventory, and site security. They will manage and coordinate activities with other managers within the organization.

In addition, the Security Manager will:

  • Prepare, coordinate, and communicate facility maintenance schedules
  • Inform the General Manager or of any unique situations, or unusual developments in maintenance operations
  • Manage company security needs and staff

Compliance

The Security Manager is responsible for ensuring security compliance as identified in the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians Cannabis Regulatory Commission Cannabis Regulations and the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians Cannabis Regulatory Act. The Security Manager will be responsible for communications regarding schedule of inspections, reviewing policies and procedures, and educating staff on security compliance and regulations.

HR

  • Assists with hiring and training new employees
  • Conducts ongoing training modules for products, systems, and procedures
  • Responsible for scheduling of security staff
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide feedback, and discipline security staff if/when necessary

Other Duties/Responsibilities expected of Rolling Embers’ Managers

  • Performing general office work, such as filing records, operating printers/ copy machines, and using email as correspondence
  • Maintain accountability of all security staff and their execution of the specific job duties
  • Observing and attending to any necessary health, welfare, and safety concerns within the store
  • Ensure maintenance of all required record keeping logs, visitor log, waste log, cash deposit log, etc.
  • Adhere to and promote a culture of compliance as it pertains to tribal and company regulations
  • Implement all anti-diversion policies and ensure understanding among all agents
  • Model a teamwork and employee-oriented environment that is conducive to enhancing employee productivity, education, advancement, and the Rolling Embers’ culture
  • Ensure all staff receive, complete and document necessary ongoing security and safety training
  • Level-headed and compliant minded approach to problem solving, whether elated to customer or employee interactions

Qualifications

Education and Work Experience

  • Associate’s Degree required; Bachelor’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 3 years’ security management experience in a fast-paced client-service intensive industry – hospitality, cannabis and/or retail background preferred
  • Team leadership experience

  • Solid problem solving, business acumen, influence, and negotiation skills
  • Superior organizational, project management, time management and multi-tasking skills

  • Successful track record with being a team player as well as building, leading, and motivating teams
  • Flexibility and creativity with finding solutions is a must, namely in the context of a start-up environment
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint (or similar suite of applications)

Physical Requirements

  • Extended time standing, walking, bending, and reaching
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. for the distance of 100 feet
  • This position requires occasional extended and repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers to manipulate objects
