Job Summary
The Dean for Liberal Arts, Sciences, and Learning Support serves under the Vice President of Academic Affairs (VPAA) and provides leadership for the planning, implementation and evaluation programs including General Education (Language Arts, Math and Science,AHSBS) Library, Counseling and Learning Center. This position is committed to problem-solving, shared governance and collaboration with Staff and Faculty. This position serves as an advocate for all programs offered in these areas and strives to meet the needs of students, faculty, local business and industry. The Dean of Liberal Arts, Sciences, Learning Support will be advising the VPAA in matters pertaining to general education and student success and will actively engage with the community and employer partners with the purpose of creating new partnerships and remaining responsive to current programs and new revenue opportunities.
Essential Functions
50% - Provides leadership, vision, direction, and coordination for academic innovation and improves student success outcomes by working with faculty and staff. Makes hiring recommendations, leads orientation sessions, provides training and development, completes performance evaluations, and complies with GWCC, District, State and Federal policies, rules and regulations related to personnel management Utilizes data for budget development, program planning, and staffing decisions.
25% - Provides leadership and administrative oversight to General Education (Language Arts, Math and Science,AHSBS), Library, Counseling and Learning Center led by faculty chairs and leadership staff; provides administrative oversight and support for externally funded grant programs.
15% - Represents the college to external constituencies and develops, supports and maintains effective relationships with business, industry, and community partners; promotes the Honors Program, Phi Kappa Theta, and other student groups.
10% - Serves as Academic Affairs administrator in Instructional Grievance process and serves as hearing officer in Academic Misconduct and Student Conduct processes. Assists with adjudication of student conduct violations related to academics. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications for Student Affairs and other non-academic pathway:
Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution in education or field related to area of assignment and four years of progressively responsible management and/or leadership experience in field of assignment that includes two years of supervisory experience. Examples of student affairs academic support management/leadership experience includes: program management, project management, budget development and management related to programs or projects, staff supervision, policy development, administration, evaluation and compliance. No degree equivalency.
OR
Minimum Qualifications for Academic pathway:
Master's Degree in a teaching field related to area(s) of assignment and four years of experience in an academic leadership and/or supervisory role in higher education and three years of teaching that includes curriculum/coursework development. Examples of academic leadership/supervisory experience includes: division/department chair, project management, policy development, administration, evaluation and compliance, committee leadership, program director, and shared governance. No degree equivalency.
Desired Qualifications
A. Doctoral degree from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution
B. Experience leading multiple professional programs and support programs in full service, multi-campus or multi-college system
C. Two (2) or more years of full-time teaching experience at a community college
D. Two (2) years of experience with online design and instruction
E. Experience with management of operational budgets across multiple programs in public education
F. Experience with program review and assessment of student learning
G. Experience leading college level faculty/instructor evaluations
H. Experience serving culturally diverse populations
Special Working Conditions

- Will be assigned to all GateWay locations
- Will require local and out of state travel
- Will require some evenings and/or weekends
