A vacancy currently exists for a Student Assistants at Pottsgrove School District with immediate needs at the high school. This position provides student academic and physical assistance required under the guidance of the teacher and in a professional and diplomatic manner that complies with confidentiality requirements.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Protect the confidentiality of all pupil information in accordance with district policy.
• Prepare instructional materials, implement instructional activities as assigned by the teacher, and record pupil progress in all instructional areas.
• Assist the student in situations that may require help in physical, academics and/or behavior modification programs; maintain a progress report.
• Assist student with organization of workspace, assignments, and recording homework.
• Follow the directions of the special education teacher or the regular education teacher in the inclusion setting.
• Assist the teacher with small group instruction and provide coursework assistance to other students in the classroom as needed.
• Observe student behaviors and assist in correcting minor issues; alert the teacher of serious issues.
• Participate as a team member in program planning as requested.
• Assist student in physical and specific self-care activities such as feeding, dressing, and cleaning and observe student for body language relative to a medical condition and report findings to the nurse.
• Assist the teacher with evaluating and reinforcing pupil lessons and mastery of all annual goals and short-term objectives.
• Perform clerical duties including but not limited to typing correspondence, answering phones, and copying.
• Assist on class field trips, monitor students as assigned, andmonitor and assist pupils during lunch period.
• Escort pupils to and from bus/van, gym class, library, and the nurse’s office.
• Attend conferences, workshops, and seminars as per supervisor.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Teacher and the Director of Special Education.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• High School diploma required. Associates degree or higher preferred.
• Experience in working with children required.
• Twenty hours of Professional Development required each year.

PAY/SCHEDULE:

• $14.31 per hour plus eligible for benefits.
• Monday through Friday, 7 hours per day.

Current ACT 34, 114, & 151 clearances required. EOE
