School Paraprofessional/Student Assistant
Job description
A vacancy currently exists for a Student Assistants at Pottsgrove School District with immediate needs at the high school. This position provides student academic and physical assistance required under the guidance of the teacher and in a professional and diplomatic manner that complies with confidentiality requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Protect the confidentiality of all pupil information in accordance with district policy.
- Prepare instructional materials, implement instructional activities as assigned by the teacher, and record pupil progress in all instructional areas.
- Assist the student in situations that may require help in physical, academics and/or behavior modification programs; maintain a progress report.
- Assist student with organization of workspace, assignments, and recording homework.
- Follow the directions of the special education teacher or the regular education teacher in the inclusion setting.
- Assist the teacher with small group instruction and provide coursework assistance to other students in the classroom as needed.
- Observe student behaviors and assist in correcting minor issues; alert the teacher of serious issues.
- Participate as a team member in program planning as requested.
- Assist student in physical and specific self-care activities such as feeding, dressing, and cleaning and observe student for body language relative to a medical condition and report findings to the nurse.
- Assist the teacher with evaluating and reinforcing pupil lessons and mastery of all annual goals and short-term objectives.
- Perform clerical duties including but not limited to typing correspondence, answering phones, and copying.
- Assist on class field trips, monitor students as assigned, andmonitor and assist pupils during lunch period.
- Escort pupils to and from bus/van, gym class, library, and the nurse’s office.
- Attend conferences, workshops, and seminars as per supervisor.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Special Education Teacher and the Director of Special Education.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma required. Associates degree or higher preferred.
- Experience in working with children required.
- Twenty hours of Professional Development required each year.
PAY/SCHEDULE:
- $14.31 per hour plus eligible for benefits.
- Monday through Friday, 7 hours per day.

Current ACT 34, 114, & 151 clearances required. EOE
