Job Summary: The candidate will serve as the School Nurse at a local school in Prince Georges County, Maryland. Responsible for implementing best practices measures to ensure the promotion of a healthy school environment. These responsibilities involve direct student (patient) care, health education and counseling, and policy management. Overseeing the individual health and emotional needs of students that includes immediate care to advance the well-being, academic success for all students. The School Nurse plays an integral role as an advocate, liaison, and consultant on health-related issues for students, families, and the school community.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Administers first aid, medication, and specialized medical treatment.
• Assesses situations involving student’s safety, abuse (physical, sexual, drug) and other health related issues for the purposes of identifying problems, referring for proper treatment, and complying with legal requirements.
• Initiates, coordinates, and maintains contact with students, families, school personnel, and community resources. Alert and inform of any health issues students experience. Screen and make referrals for medical, and/or emotional intervention as needed.
• Promotes a healthy school community.
• Manages communicable disease outbreaks.
• Responds quickly to medical emergencies.
• Monitors immunization status that includes reviewing immunization record, documenting immunization in students’ education records, and providing follow up for compliance with COMAR.
• Maintains confidentiality of information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
• Communicates new COVID-19 health policies and procedures to school administration.

Perform other school health related tasks as assigned.

Working Environment: The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing; kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally, the job is performed in an office environment that may require sitting, walking, and standing.

Licenses and Other Requirements:

• RN, Maryland Nursing License
• Minimum of 2 years pediatric experience
• First Aid/CPR
• Fingerprint Clearance
