PURPOSE OF POSITION:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This full-time position will work as part of a dynamic, caring and hopeful team to lead a cohort of school aged services staff ensuring high-quality programs where students experience achievement, belonging and relationships. The Sr. Program Director is a high performer in the field with a proven track record of driving quality results in a fast paced, dynamic and multi-faceted organization The Sr. Program Director must understand the basic concepts, vision and mission of the YMCA to ensure the successful operation of all facets of these programs and the development of new program initiatives including staff leadership and development, financial development, community relations and collaborations, partnerships and policy, budgeting and financial results.

Under the direction of the Executive Operations, the Sr. Program Director is a leader and driver of the YMCA of Memphis & the Mid South school age services before & after-school programs and summer program initiatives in Shelby County.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Supports the YMCA mission and models the YMCA core values: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility.
  • Provides effective coaching and direction to assigned full time and part time team members.
  • Identifies and develops high quality leaders.
  • Ensures that the program operates per quality, licensing and safety standards.
  • Manages parent feedback and complaints effectively. Able to train and develop staff in these areas as well.
  • High relationship, emotional intelligence, emotional maturity, and accountability standards necessary.
  • Assist with training, interviewing and onboarding.
  • Work select on-call shifts at childcare locations to meet the needs of ratio.
  • Responsible for fostering an environment where staff motivation, recognition, and teamwork thrive; assists with the development of a staff celebration and recognition plan
to increase staff morale and reduce staff turnover.

QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
  • Must be able to communicate effectively within the assigned team and across childcare divisions.
  • Superior supervisory, communication and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to inspire and motivate staff, volunteers, members and participants to develop an effective team and create a culture of service
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community

  • Must present a professional image and possess and demonstrate sound judgment, independent thinking, and initiative

  • Ability to travel to multiple locations and ability to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends at certain times of year
  • Minimum 18 years of age
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Work or related field or an equivalent combination of directly related experience, training, and/or education.
  • Five (5) or more years of YMCA child care experience or youth development work preferred. Comparable experience in other organizations may be considered.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in managing programs (designing, implementing, and evaluating youth development programs) to include at least two years
directly supervising staff.
  • Knowledge and expertise in Child and Youth Development, programming and DHS
  • Knowledge of Food Program Requirement is a plus
WORK SCHEDULE:
The full time work schedule for this position is generally Monday through Friday, 8:00am-6:00pm, though evenings, and weekends work may be required.

  • Frequent climbing, sitting, standing, pushing, walking, kneeling, and stooping
  • Some Exposure to the outdoor elements
  • Exposure to electrical/mechanical mechanisms
  • Exposure to some chemical elements
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
