Our client, Dan's Overhead Doors, is looking for an experienced Sales Representative to join their team in Pleasant Hill, Iowa! We're currently seeking individuals who have a good working knowledge of garage doors and related products, excellent communication skills, follow-up and will establish a relationship with manufacturer representatives and their customer service staff as a valuable resource partnership.


In today’s competitive market, the Sales Representative must be able to understand and work with sales / profit margins, estimate job costs to maximize profitability for bid projects, plus have a working knowledge of labor hours required to perform each project.


RESPONSIBILITIES: The Sales Representative calls on a wide customer base, from small commercial firms or farms to large factories and industrial facilities, residential clients, and homeowners.

  • Contact new and existing customers to discuss their needs and to explain how specific products and services can meet these needs
  • Help customers select products based on the customers' needs, product specifications, and regulations
  • Negotiate prices and terms of sale and service agreements
  • Prepare sales contracts and submit orders for processing
  • Follow up with customers to make sure they are satisfied with their purchases and to answer any questions or concerns
  • In order to effectively and profitably quote installation and repair, learn all aspects of door installation and repair from a time and cost standpoint. Prepare quotation for customer’s approval/acceptance.
  • Follow established collection procedures with down payments, credit applications and follow-up collection efforts as requested by the Accounts Manager.
  • Participate in sales meeting, workshops, training sessions, promotions, etc., as directed.
  • Perform customer prospecting activities, attend customer sponsored events, meet daily cold call quota, etc.
  • Establish appointments and call on prospective customers. Maintain and build customer base. Maintain master call books.
  • Meet or confer regularly with the Sales Manager and with other sales personnel to ensure that stated goals and objectives are understood and adhered to, and to share experiences and other pertinent information.
  • Minimize the liability of the company by ensuring that personal sales activities comply with all federal, state and local laws, ordinances, rules, regulations and statutory requirements.
  • Maintain awareness of potential customer activity in the market. Be aware of new businesses, expansion of existing business, as well as competitor’s pricing and promotional activities.
  • Achieve assigned personal sales goals on a weekly and monthly basis. Give special effort to selling promotional items and items “targeted” by sales management.

Requirements and Skills:

  • 5 years or more of outside sales experience preferred
  • Working Knowledge of Electrical Components
  • Project Manager experience is a plus
  • Have good organizational skills
  • Possess a Clean and Valid Driver’s License
  • Have a clean, professional appearance and good communication skills
  • Team player
  • Problem-solving attitude
  • Ability to Pass a Pre-Employment Drug Screen and Physical

MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE: The Sales Representative receives a salary for a period of 6-12 months. After that period, the position is fully commissioned (no base salary) and commission paid is a percentage based on monthly sales and profitability.


Each sales representative has a sales budget on a monthly and annual basis. The goal is to meet or exceed sales and maintain profitability on jobs.

  • A company vehicle is provided for work-related travel. A valid driver’s license and good driving record is required. Loss of driving privileges may result in termination of employment.
