Vision Logistics is an asset-based intermodal carrier for Total Transportation Services (TTSI). Operating within a 300-mile radius of our Manteno IL terminal, we specialize in 20' and 40' import and export drayage from the Chicago rails to and from central Indiana. Vision Logistics provides accountability, quality, and reliable service with every load.
We are seeking a reliable Safety Manager to oversee all DOT and safety compliance standards for Federal, State, and company specific risk management. They will work to improve safety performance and provide administrative support.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned
- Performs safety observations to promote safe working behavior.
- Defines and implements safety procedures in accordance with corporate Safety Policies.
- Conducts and documents regular safety reviews at administrative and maintenance facilities to ensure compliance to 29 CFR §1910 standards.
- Resolves HOS issues within the Geotab (ELD) portal when appropriate.
- Assigns all unassigned Lytx event recorder events and coach drivers to improve defensive driving behaviors.
- Communicates with state regulatory agencies regarding roadside inspection compliance.
- Works to support continuous improvement of CSA and ISP scores.
- Initiates the DataQ process when necessary.
- Investigates accidents/injuries, collect, and preserve pertinent records/documentation related to the event, and advises the Director of Safety regarding any required 49 CFR §382.303 testing.
- Provides fair and consistent crash preventability rulings utilizing the FMCSA Accident Countermeasures Process.
- Manages the VLI Safety Bonus programs.
- Creates, tracks, and issues progressive discipline when necessary.
- Updates and presents orientation training to employee drivers an Independent Owner Operators.
- Counsels drivers and office staff to help prevent personal conflicts from affecting driver turnover.
- Monitors all required 49 CFR §382 testing.
- Communicates with state and federal agencies including FMCSA, DOL, PHMSA, and local government agencies as necessary.
- Is the Subject Matter Expert in regulatory matters providing guidance to local management.
- Is a problem solver willing to think outside the box.
- Communicates with the executive staff as necessary.
- Willing to engage the drivers by working various shifts/hours.
Required Skills and Qualifications
Education / Experience:
Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; or four to six years minimum related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Transportation Safety Manager
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Good Knowledge of data analysis and risk assessment
- Excellent organizational and motivational skills
- Oustanding attention to detail and observation ability
WORK AVAILABILITY
Must be able to travel at least 10% of the time.
Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such level as is determined by management.
Must be available and willing to work such weekends and holidays as the employer determines are necessary or desirable to meet its business needs.
ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear; climb stairs and/or ladders. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
