Key Responsibilities
- Develops, implements and maintains plant safety procedures and programs. Responsible for annual review of all safety written programs.
- Assists with the Plant Industrial Hygiene Program and the Plant Process Safety Management Program.
- Conducts accident investigations. Prepares reports and reviews action items to prevent reoccurrence.
- Facilitates Safety Committee to become an action oriented group.
- Conducts plant safety inspections with an itemized correction list. Verifies corrections are complete.
- Assists in developing emergency procedures. Creates the plant Emergency Response Team training and development curriculum.
- Identifies new safety equipment.
- Conducts contractor safety training and develops contractor safety programs.
- Conducts personnel industrial hygiene monitoring.
- Assists in developing mock OSHA inspections.
- Conducts job safety analyses.
- Reviews waste profiles, the processes and on-site activities for the proper selection of personal protective equipment.
- Maintains the Hazard Communication Program for the Ross companies by completing chemical inventories and providing Safety Data Sheets to plant personnel.
- Implements Safety Incentive Program.
- Is the backup for weekly SCBA and fire extinguisher inspections. Manages the annual fire and SCBA inspections with outside contractors.
- Conducts unscheduled audits of other departments to determine if proper procedures are being followed.
- Performs Environmental, Health and Safety on-call duties per the rotation of the on-call schedule to include stack readings and hospital runs.
- Maintains certification as Stack Reader.
- Conducts monthly safety training and safety related training for new hires and plant personnel.
- Backup for annual respirator fit testing.
- Performs quarterly plant alarm system tests with the I.C.E. department.
- Ensures that all safety related shutdown equipment is operational.
- Understands both RIS’ ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety and ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems, and assists with executing their objectives.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements
- Four year degree in Safety, Industrial Hygiene or other related technical specialty area. Equivalent experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.
- Must have at least two years experience in safety and health compliance and five or more years work experience in an Industrial Manufacturing or Chemical Processing environment. Should have experience in Emergency Preparedness Training and Emergency Response.
- Must have knowledge of OSHA Regulations.
- Position requires exercise of independent judgment and ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Knowledge of the County Emergency Response and Local Emergency Planning is a plus.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written), organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to quality.
- Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook). Must be able to generate reports and other documents in a timely and quality manner to meet operational and customer needs.
- Must be analytical, detail oriented, customer-focused.
- Must be able to follow established company procedures as well as those related to regulatory requirements.
