Job description
To connect youth residing in economically disadvantaged areas of Peoria with Role Models having a similar cultural heritage/identity. Special emphasis will be placed on Role Models for disadvantaged Black youth. Provide participants with guidance and access to opportunities and mentoring. Under general supervision, the coordinator will implement and coordinate the Peoria Role Model Project. Develop and publish role model profiles, plan and conduct events, recruit project participants, work with community, government, and business entities, manage and monitor project activities. Manage and monitor project budget and activities. Conduct project evaluation. Prepare project reports. Ensure mentors pass required background checks.
Develops, coordinates and monitors Peoria Role Model Project
Develops project activities, documents, communications- Identifies local Role Model participants
- Recruits middle and high school students for participation in the project
- Provides orientation for participants and role models
- Manages and monitors program activities
Performs administrative and oversight duties in support of the Project
- Manages program budget.
Associates degree and one to three years of progressively responsible related experience required. A valid Driver’s License or the ability to meet the transportation requirements of the job required. Experience with targeted population desired. Any combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job considered.
Knowledge of particular needs issues and concerns of specific communities; applicable computer software; social services programs and resources; and social, developmental, cultural, and economic issues impacting youth. Skill in comprehensive, practical knowledge of a technical field with use of analytical judgment and decision-making abilities appropriate to the work environment of the organization. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and in person; read literature, books, reviews, scientific or technical journals, abstracts, financial reports, and/or legal documents; deal with a system of real numbers; and practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions, and measurement; write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech and communicate effectively in writing and in person.
This is a temporary or part-time position that is not covered by any City of Peoria benefits.
