  • Plans, organizes and evaluates psychosocial and educational outreach programs for Breast Cancer patients in all phases of the life cycle and their families. Provides educational opportunities for a broad scope of healthcare providers.
  • Develops and maintains a speakers' bureau to support outreach programs.
  • Provides consultative services to patients with new cancer diagnosis by providing support, education and service linkage.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Tracks and coordinates care for patients with new malignant diagnosis.
  • Tracks time from diagnosis to multidisciplinary evaluation by medical oncology and surgical oncology.
  • Develops relationship with American Cancer Society, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, Melanoma Research Foundation and other patient support groups.
  • Tracks compliance with the NCCN guidelines, treatment and surveillance.
  • Provides teaching and preabilitation for patients to prepare them for surgery and minimize complications.
  • Coordinate patient care during in-hospital postoperative recovery to improve transition of care in the hospital.
  • Recognize and prevent complications to reduce hospitalization.
  • Respects and maintains confidentiality of patient, staff and privileged hospital information.
  • Collects data on all aspects of community outreach. Trends and tracks data on outcomes, number of contacts, and follow up service.
  • Demonstrates proficiency at organizing and collecting data pertinent to procedure results and presenting statistical findings to physician and Manager.
  • Maintains open communication with Manager of Cancer Center by meeting every month or as needed.
  • Reports problems, follows up on concerns or complaints of physicians and/or patients in a timely manner.
  • Works at maintaining a good rapport and cooperative working relationship with primary physicians, surgeons, and associates of Cancer Center.
  • Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the organization, as well as the focus of the breast biopsy program.
  • Represents the organization in a positive professional manner.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.

Professional Requirements:

  • Assists in the development, implementation and evaluation of performance improvement indicators to promote positive outcomes and work environment.
  • Displays excellent public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Ability to be effective in a fast paced, continually evolving program.

Demonstrates the ability to delegate and balance priorities while continuing to move issues forward.

  • Keeps educational and promotional materials organized and reorders materials when necessary.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by Manager of Cancer Center.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Graduate of an accredited/approved school of Nursing, BSN preferred, with a minimum of two years of experience in related area.
  • Must have demonstrated competence in the organization and implementation of health education and consultative services. Committed to the provision of high-quality and psychosocial care to women of all ages and stages of development and their families.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

  • Registered Nurse in the State of Florida.
  • Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Holds Navigator Certification or ONS or attains certification after hire.
