RN (L&D) WALTER REED MEDICAL CENTER
LONG TERM GOVERNMENT CONTRACT POSITION.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE RN - L&D:
- Coordinate patient care through a continuum and facilitate the achievement of optimal outcomes in relation to care, quality and cost effectiveness. Establish priorities of patient care based on essential patient needs and available unit resources including time, personnel, equipment, and supplies.
- Maintain excellent patient assessment skills. Use the nursing process as a basis for professional practice. The contracted RN will demonstrate proper preparation of patient’s for treatments and procedures, to include surgical interventions. Evaluate effectiveness of self, care given by all health team members, and contribution of systems, environment, and instrumentation in progressing patient toward outcomes.
- Perform/assist with clinic specific procedures, in accordance with established policies, and guidelines used in the MTF and IAW JC guidelines. Evaluate effectiveness of self, care given by all health team members, and contribution of systems, environment, and instrumentation in progressing patient toward outcomes.
- Skill in setting up, operating and monitoring specialized medical equipment such as IV infusion pumps, cardiac monitoring devices, EKG units, oxygen analyzers, nebulizers and other clinic specific equipment.
- Excellent oral communication skills for patient/family education. Prescribes and communicates treatment plans in accordance with established Labor and Deliveryprotocols as prescribed in MTF policies and procedures and IAW JC guidelines.Contractor RNs shall provide proper care and evaluation of post-procedural patients.
- Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of their use as well as the accurate administration of the pharmacologic agent, including dosage calculations as required. Will be knowledgeable in administrative requirements for the documentation of patient's condition, progress and acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up care.
- Demonstrate excellent written communication skills to perform accurate documentation, both written and electronic, of all activity in accordance with requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE RN-L&D:
- Degree/Education: A graduate of an Associate, Bachelor or Master’s program of
Registered Nursing. The institution will be from a National League of Nursing (NLN)
approved program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery Walter Reed
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- S.T.A.B.L.E, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Intermediate Fetal Monitoring or higher (Advanced Fetal Monitoring).
- Valid, unrestricted, RN license at least 1 state, territory or commonwealth of the US.
- Experience as a Registered Nurse for 3 years with at least two years as an RN in a high risk Obstetrical Unit. Experience in the full spectrum of care to include L&D,
antepartum, triage, circulating during C-sections.
- Be a U.S. citizen

Pay: $118,366.56 per year
