The Delegating Nurse/RN is responsible for providing nursing services and support to adults with disabilities in programs Star offers and in accordance with agency policies and all applicable federal and state regulations.

Qualifications: CurrentRegistered Nurse in the State of Maryland. Related experience working with persons with developmental disabilities is preferred. Knowledge and understanding of the needs of individuals with disabilities is preferred. Working knowledge of the relevant COMAR Regulations. Must possess a valid driver’s license that meets the requirements of the insurance carrier. Must have the ability to lift, transfer and implement restraint techniques. This position requires the availability for flexible work schedules. Ability to speak and write proficiently in English required.

Must successfully complete the DDA case manager/delegating nurse training.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work to support and exemplify the values, vision and mission of Star Community.
  • Provide Nursing Delegation/Case Management function.
  • Complete nursing visits to include evaluation of individuals needing Nursing Delegation or Nursing Health Case Management.
  • Review medication administration records, physicians’ orders, medication and storage/delivery system, and evaluate medication administration.
  • Provide nursing care plan, nursing protocols, and staff training, including skills training.
  • Track and Monitor the completion of Nursing Care Plan trainings for direct care staff.
  • Complete HRST Clinical reviews as needed.
  • Be available for 24-hour nursing on-call coverage for medical/nursing related matters on a rotating basis.
  • Teach the Medication Technician Training Program (MTTP) and Two-Year Clinical Update (Medication Class, MTTP) to staff and provide evaluation of competency of staff.
  • Process all new admissions to include; assess the individual, review medical history, current medications, and develop an initial nursing evaluation and nursing plan of care.
  • Utilize Star’s EMR system for documentation, tracking, and reporting.
  • Work as a team and in collaboration with directors, house staff, coordinators, families, and person supported to answer questions concerning medical or medication issues.
  • Conduct medically based trainings as indicated to meet the specialized needs of the individuals served.
  • Consult with physicians, family members, team members, and pharmacy personnel.
  • Comply with the standards set forth in the Maryland State Board Nurse Practice Ace.
  • Follow Professional Standards of Nursing Practice standards and applicable DDA regulations.
  • Delegate nursing tasks to unlicensed staff consistent with COMAR 10.27.11.
  • Successfully complete in-service requirements and meet renewal schedules.
  • Maintain medication administration procedures per the MTTP (medication tech. training program) through delegation to non-licensed staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
