Risk and Legal Specialist

This position will work out of our office in Irvine.

In alignment with OMG’s mission and values, the Risk & Legal Specialist will be an integral part of the Legal Team ensuring Oakmont’s claims management and risk mitigation strategies are fully supported. This newly created role will support the discovery phase of litigation, provide day-to-day oversight of the workers’ compensation program and perform other risk management initiatives as they arise. The ideal candidate is highly organized, has stellar communication skills and a strong desire to work collaboratively with other Legal Team members and operational stakeholders to support Oakmont’s fast-paced environment and growth. Please note that this is an in-person role in Oakmont’s Irvine office.

Salary range: $68-78k

Position Responsibilities:

  • Review discovery requests/responses and interface with defense counsel in ensuring timely completion
  • Investigate facts and assist in developing legal arguments
  • Summarize cases and prepare reports for attorneys/other stakeholders
  • Draft documents as needed such as contracts, pleadings and legal notice
  • Organize and archive documents related to completed and ongoing cases
  • Participate in incident investigations and root cause analysis as necessary
  • Document, process, and report on incidents and claims associated with occupational injuries or illnesses
  • Coordinate with community supervisors and employees on workplace accommodations for return to work
  • Audit compliance with work restrictions
  • Prepare for and attend Workers’ Compensation claim review meetings
  • Appropriately respond to employee questions or concerns
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience:

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent; Bachelor’s or Associate’s Degree preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a legal department managing litigation and/or work comp claims
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Adept at multi-tasking with strong organizational and project management skills, and able to turn around projects quickly and deliver on schedule
  • Proven ability to work independently, discretely, and handle confidential information
  • Strong customer service and relationship-building skills
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Able to operate a personal computer and be proficient in MS Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Able to adapt and respond to change, make decisions, and prioritize tasks and projects.
  • Must pass a Criminal Background check and Health Screening tests.
  • Must provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination(s)/booster(s) or valid exemption due to Qualifying Medical Reasons or Religious Beliefs subject to legal requirements.
