The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy (Conservancy) is the nonprofit support partner of the National Park Service overseeing the Golden Gate National Recreation Area (Golden Gate National Parks) – 84,000 acres of National Park lands spanning the Golden Gate. The Parks extend north and south from the Golden Gate Bridge up to Olema Valley and down the coast to Rancho Corral de Tierra. Treasured Park gems include Muir Woods, Ocean Beach, Crissy Field, Alcatraz, and The Presidio. The Conservancy is a membership organization created to preserve the Golden Gate National Parks, enhance the experiences of park visitors, and build a community dedicated to conserving the parks for the future.

Department Description:
The Interpretive Centers and Sales Branch is responsible for developing and operating visitor centers throughout the Golden Gate National Parks, providing visitor information, orientation, and other direct services. Conservancy Interpretive Centers provide educational, functional, and proprietary park merchandise alongside changing park exhibits. The Branch develops park books, maps, and interpretive and branded products. It also manages warehouses and distribution, operates the Muir Woods Fee Collection program, and operates and develops products for the Conservancy wholesale and online sales programs. Interpretive Centers include Alcatraz Park Stores, Muir Woods Visitor Center, Lands End Lookout, The Warming Hut, Fort Point Park Store, Presidio Visitor Center, and the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center.
Position Overview:
The Parks Conservancy seeks a reliable, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable person to fill the position of Full-Time Regular Sales Associate at the Golden Gate Bridge Welcome Center. This is a unique opportunity to work for a nonprofit organization supporting the Golden Gate National Parks. The person we hire will:
- Represent the Golden Gate National Parks and the Golden Gate Bridge to visitors from all over the world
- Provide orientation and interpretation of the Golden Gate National Parks and the Golden Gate Bridge
- Engage with visitors and help them to form a lasting connection to our parks and to the Golden Gate Bridge based on your own passion and commitment
- Sell interpretive merchandise as a member of our team and help the Conservancy meet its sales goals
- Work an 8-hour shift, including weekends and holidays, beginning and ending sometime between the hours of 8 AM – 8 PM, depending on the shift and season
Reports To: Manager, Assistant Managers, Supervisors
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Provide friendly, attentive visitor services, of the highest quality
- Complete all transactions efficiently and accurately
- Answer all visitor questions with courtesy, accuracy, and appropriateness
- Work within a cohesive team to run daily operations smoothly and efficiently
- Communicate effectively to appropriate parties when visitor and employee safety, park resources, facilities, and assets are at risk
- Maintain positive and respectful relationships with the Golden Gate Bridge District, National Park Service, the Presidio Trust, and Parks Conservancy colleagues
- Constantly restock and keep merchandise displays clean and attractive
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- You are sensitive to visitor needs and concerns and enjoy working in a busy retail environment with plenty of visitor interaction and conversation about the Parks, the Bridge, and the City
- You are interested in the history, natural history, culture, and trails of the Golden Gate National Parks and are willing to contribute to the team’s knowledge base
- You convey your enthusiasm and passion about the Parks and Bridge to our visitors
- You are reliable, on time, and enjoy working in a fast-paced, physically demanding environment
- You are accurate and efficient with cash and other forms of payment at the point of sale
- You are comfortable with high volume sales and customer service
Health and Safety:

Physical Requirements and Work Environments:
- Standing most of the day, but also sitting, squatting, kneeling, or walking, depending on a wide range of duties
- Working on the main floor, offsite stockroom, and outdoors in the park
- Walking around the Bridge and plaza, overlooks and trails of the Presidio and learning transportation options
- Walking to or learning about other areas of the park including Crissy Field, Fort Point, and Lands End, Fort Baker
- Lifting, carrying, or positioning objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Wearing a uniform consisting of all-black, full-length pants, black shoes, uniform shirt, and nametag with vest and/or jacket as needed and adhering to professional appearance standards
Salary and Benefits:
Starting pay is $20/hour.
