The centerpiece of the Seaport District’s renaissance is an entirely re-imagined historic Tin Building, featuring a one-of-a-kind Marketplace and entertainment venue operated by renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten.

The Tin Building by Jean Georges will feature multiple unique venues: Several full-service restaurants, fast casual and counter dining outlets as well as 10,000 sf of retail featuring private label products, grab and go, grocery and CPGs. To support this significant operation the Marketplace will feature a large commissary kitchen and bakery, as well as an exhibition kitchen that will provide media opportunities.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Retail Market Manager will oversee the operations of the grocery, home goods, snacks, dairy, and bottled beverage categories, executing these areas as part of the overall vision of the Seaport District and the TIN Building. He or she will report to the general manager and assistant general manager and directly supervise hourly supervisors and hourly associates. The retail market manager will provide professional leadership and training systems to all staff members, role modeling service standards and guest experience. He or she is responsible for all financial aspects of the departments.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Responsible for the financials of Grocery Department and all Grocery categories, along with the daily operation and maintenance; development of training & reporting procedures with a specialized focus on service and quality; maintain evolving knowledge of current market trends
  • Collaborate with the F&B teams to ensure consistent standards of excellence, collective inventory management, and opportunities for cross utilization are maximized for both labor and product management
  • Partner with Human Resources for full cycle recruitment and employment, including development and implementation of initiatives
  • Partner with the Purchasing and Receiving departments on Grocery categories inventory to ensure product integrity throughout the internal supply chain
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations; Company policies and procedures are implemented and being followed; Ensure all equipment is being used safely and in proper working order; all signage is in compliance with Company standards
  • Accountable for meeting and exceeding food, beverage, and labor cost and any other key operating expenses forecasted; Verify that only sellable goods are presented for guest purchase
  • Ensure that proper security procedures are in place to protect employees, guests, and company assets; accounting practices are maintained
  • Ensure a safe working and guest environment to reduce the risk of injury and accidents; complete accident reports promptly and thoroughly
  • Responsible for performance management of direct and indirect reports; ensuring appropriate handling of performance concerns are addressed in a timely, fair, and consistent manner
  • Fosters a collaborative and engaged working relationship with all company employees; promoting a team centric culture that will lead to a positive employee experience; Liaison with customers and third parties to ensure a positive experience
  • Must be able to maintain flexibility with schedule and availability due to business demand
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or requested

KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Minimum 3+ years of successful multi venue management experience at a senior level.
  • Proficient in the following dimensions/functions: food planning and preparation, purchasing, sanitation, security, company policies and procedures, personnel management, recordkeeping, and preparation of reports.
  • Experience with large scale production and event planning a plus.
  • Demonstrated success in achieving fiscal goals and executing to a high standard.
  • Computer literate with the ability to learn and adapt to using new programs.
  • Exhibits excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Possess strong interpersonal and collaboration skills to manage this diverse team; must support and advance a culture of committed action, excellence, and respect.
  • Self-disciplined, shows initiative, possess leadership ability, and is outgoing.
  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Must be passionate, entrepreneurial, and dedicated to success.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to perform the essential job functions consistent safely and successfully with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing 10 – 30 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds on a regular (or occasional basis).
  • Ability to sit for prolong periods of time.
  • Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly frequent movements from place to place within the work area and property. Bend, lift, carry, reach/extend arms, and hands above shoulder height frequently, or otherwise move in a constantly changing environment.
  • Climbing steps regularly.

The base pay range for this position is a salary range of $60,000 - $85,000 per year. The determination of what a specific employee in this job classification is paid within the range depends on a number of factors, including, but not limited to, prior employment history/job-related knowledge, qualifications and skills, etc.
