Rolling Embers is a wholly owned subsidiary of Ember Enterprises, LLC, and was created to own and operate an adult-use cannabis store offering a wide variety of adult-use cannabis products in New Buffalo, Michigan. Department Overview
The Retail Department is the public-facing and customer-engaging branch of Rolling Embers. As such, it serves as a gateway to maintain connection with the Rolling Embers customers in the community. The Retail Department and its staff showcase and sell a wide range of products, accessories and other brand merchandise. This team prioritizes exceptional service to all patrons and the promotion and representation of the Rolling Embers brand.
Position Summary
The Retail Associate is the welcoming face of Rolling Embers to our customers. The successful candidate will possess outstanding customer service skills, a problem-solving attitude, constant desire for self-improvement, and attention to details. This entry-level, non-management position offers the opportunity to learn and grow with the Company from the ground up, and to take on increasing levels of responsibility over time.
Reporting to the Assistant Store Manager, the main responsibilities of the Retail Associate include interacting with, educating, and advising customers with product selection face-to-face and/or by phone; entering transactions into the POS system; record-keeping; assisting with inventory and cash management; interacting with local service providers; and helping to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming facility inside and out.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities

In addition, the Retail Associate is expected to:
- Greet customers in person and/or on the phone
- Be knowledgeable and welcoming
- Enter each sale into the POS system
- Maintains customer and sales records in compliance with Tribal law and Company policy
- Answers questions about the law and the Company from customers and others
- Other duties may be assigned by the Assistant Store Manager according to Company needs
Sales Floor Responsibilities
- Monitor customer flow in and out of the store and consumption lounge
- Move, restock, and organize the sales floor inventory
- Assist with side tasks (cleaning, parking lot sweep, etc.)
- Execute safe cannabis handling practices
- Participate in ongoing cannabis knowledge training
- Perform duties with a friendly and positive demeanor while interacting with customers and co-workers
- Provide above and beyond customer service
- Uphold a respect and passion for the cannabis plant
- Practice proper anti-diversion tactics
- Hold safety and security to a high standard when interacting with customers and co-workers
- Effectively utilize the point-of-sale system and other necessary technology within the store
- Execute and complete all cannabis transactions in a compliant manner
- Maintain correct cannabis product inventory and point-of-sale records
- Retain knowledge of the products we carry within the store
- Maintain individual cash drawers. This includes the correct currency balance at the start and close of business as well as the organization of all receipt payments
- Verify all customers are at least 21 years old
- Ensure all customer information is accurate and complete in POS, with all entry fields completed and copies of ID’s verified
- Confirm that no one enters the facility without proper identification and verification, at any time
Inventory Control
- Assist Management with product investigation when necessary
- Visually inspects products for quality assurance
- Assist Management with a full audit of all products against the Pokagon Band of Potawatomi Indians Cannabis Regulatory Commission Cannabis Regulations labeling and packaging standards
- Ensure maintenance of all required record keeping logs
Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent
- 2 years post-secondary education in a related field preferred
Work Experience Required
- 2+ years’ experience in a fast-paced client-service intensive industry – hospitality and retail backgrounds preferred
- Work history showing progressive responsibility, willingness to accept, lead, and complete additional projects or challenges
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Required Knowledge
- Computer & equipment operations necessary for running an office/retail center (POS systems; Word; Excel; office equipment such as copiers/telephone systems)
- Thorough understanding of Tribal law governing cannabis
- Arithmetic necessary for basic inventory and cash management
- Familiarity with history and varieties of cannabis products preferred but not required

Physical Requirements
- Extended time standing, walking, bending, and reaching
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds for a distance of 100 feet
- This position requires occasional extended and repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers to manipulate objects
- Must pass a drug test and background check (Tribe mandated)
- Reliable transportation
