Job Summary
A Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory therapy which includes assessment, treatment, management, control, diagnostic evaluation and care of patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of the cardiopulmonary system. Consults with physicians. Provides consultation, instruction and/or technical direction of medical, nursing, and other staff members.
Qualifications
Required:
- Current California Respiratory Care Practitioner License
- Graduate of an accredited two (2) year Respiratory Therapy Program
- Current certificate from the Board of Medical Quality Assurance Respiratory Care Examining Committee, Department of Consumer Affairs, State of California required.
- Proof of having passed the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) BS preferred
- On the job experience, prefer 2 years, necessary as determined by department orientation requirements in order to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of department specific standards
- BLS within 2 month of hire and on-going
- NRP within 6 months of hire and on-going
- Interpersonal skills necessary in order to instruct/comfort patients/families; to maintain effective communication/contact with healthcare team members
- Analytical skills necessary in order to prioritize workload and prepare Respiratory care plans, implement effective respiratory care and develop solutions to problems concerning patient’s body, mind, and spirit
- Basic computer knowledge including: Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word and Intranet
- Ability to learn Computer software programs including: McKesson Clinical Care Station, Policy Manager, OneSource, Materials Management, HPF, Medication Administration, Patient View, Centricity, Truven, Up-to-date
Job Relationships
- Reports directly to Cardiopulmonary Services Department Director.
- Reports indirectly to the Department Director and other management covering the department.
- Takes daily direction from the Department Director or Coordinator.
- Collaborates with all members of the Health Care Team in the coordination of patient care.
OCCUPATIONAL HAZARDS: Works in the general hospital setting. May be exposed to blood, body fluids, or tissues as well as patients in varying stages of infectious states.
