WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Target Salary Range ($64,480-$67,000)

Sorrento Therapeutics (“Sorrento”) is seeking an experienced Research Associate who will work in the area of mRNA production. Responsible for mRNA production as well as for process development. This will include, but not limited to, mRNA production process development, process scale-up, process execution to make material for preclinical studies. This individual will join a dynamic, rapidly growing, and highly collaborative team that is driving the mRNA process development and manufacturing for multiple mRNA platforms and drug products.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

• Support the development of in-house mRNA production capabilities, with an emphasis on establishing a scalable/transferable process for producing high-purity material
• Execute experimental plans for screening, optimization, and scale-up efforts for mRNA synthesis, and purification
• Develop and optimize enzyme catalyzed in vitro transcription (IVT) for mRNA production
• Implement scalable mRNA purification by using AKTA and HPLC
• Develop and run analytical assays including HPLC, Fragment Analyzer, qPCR, LAL, ELISA etc.
• Manufacture mRNA for formulation and other platform teams
• Coordinate with multiple scientists for scheduling and execution of experiments
• Analyze, record, and maintain data on results and communicate results to appropriate personnel accurately documenting findings within electronic laboratory notebook and computer files in a timely manner.
• Prepares reagents, chemical solutions and biological samples for laboratory procedures.
• Participates and contributes in group and project meetings as required.
• Works in accordance with safety guidelines.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Molecular Biology or related disciplines
• Experience with AKTA, HPLC, TFF and other standard analytical techniques highly preferred
• Technical understanding and experience in biopharmaceutical process development including protein or RNA synthesis, and purification is required
• Operate specialized laboratory equipment and computers as appropriate to the individual laboratory (including instrument maintenance and calibration).
• Good analytical skills.
• Good inter-personal skills and communication skills (both written and oral).
• Proficient at writing and oral presentations.
• Proficient in the use of standard desktop computer software programs.
• Effective project and time management skills.
• Team player capable of operating in a dynamic matrix environment.
