We are looking for a Full-Time Research Assistant to join the UTHealth School of Public Health at the Brownsville Regional Campus in Brownsville, TX 78520. In this position, you would assist the clinical research unit by providing recruitment activities out in the field and by phone, consenting subjects, and conducting 2 to 3-hour interviews to gather data. These data gathering techniques include research surveys, inputting data into REDCap and Access databases, and processing blood and urine specimens.

Position Summary:
Under the general direction of senior research staff, conducts activities to support research projects. Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices.
Position Key Accountabilities:
- Conducts research activities, under general direction, according to research. Research activities may include some or all of the following:
- Patient recruiting and screening, checking and documenting vital signs, interviews at patients’ homes, traditional laboratory experiments and activities, process specimens, informatics, field interviewer recruiting, screening, and training.
- Maintain adequate lab supplies to ensure the timely achievement of lab activities.
- Collects research data and maintains accurate and timely records, including notebooks, journals, databases, and correct data discrepancies, as needed by the research project.
- Monitors laboratory and other supplies to ensure sufficient inventory to support research projects. Ensures quality of reagents or other supplies.
- Stays abreast of new and updated protocols for the research department.
- Run and perform laboratory duties as needed.
- Perform Data entry in different databases.
- As needed, support staff and other research assistants to ensure efficient, timely, and high-quality results. Answers questions or resolves problems regarding routine or more complex duties.
- Complies with all governmental and University policies, rules, regulations, and codes.
- May participate in continuing education programs, workshops, and seminars.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Certification/Skills:
- Bilingual English/Spanish
- General knowledge and some detailed concepts of the research field assigned.
- Basic computer skills.
Minimum Education:
- Bachelor’s degree or relevant experience in lieu of education.
Minimum Experience:
- May substitute required experience with equivalent years of education beyond the minimum education requirement.
Physical Requirements:Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds constantly and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects. This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.Security Sensitive:This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215
