We have an exciting opportunity open for a Renewables Engineer.
The successful candidate will be based in Colorado with the option to work from our Centennial, CO office or remote within a drivable distance to the Colorado office.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Renewables Engineer will primarily focus on Hydrogen related engineering activities for the organization including, but not limited to, feasibility analysis, design review, implementation, commissioning, and project management of new and existing projects. The selected candidate will work closely with the Senior Manager Engineering, Renewables and the Senior Manager, Hydrogen Project Development to provide the technical engineering expertise necessary to support the company-wide project development and emission reduction goals. This position will report directly to the Senior Manager of Engineering, Renewables.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interact with the renewable energy development team, during the development or project conception phase, to support project feasibility analysis
- Take an active role in all aspects of projects including conceptualization, work planning, project design, and project execution
- This includes project estimating, budgeting, and project/construction management activities
- Work on challenging assignments that include investigating, troubleshooting, and problem solving a wide variety of challenges related to renewable energy facility designs and integration of new assets with existing natural gas infrastructure
- System Design – review and apply acquired knowledge of industry design standards, regulations, and material specifications to system designs and details; collects and researches data and analyzes information; applies design principles demonstrating attention to detail, problem solving skills including ability to develop alternative solutions and ability to use feedback to modify designs when necessary
- Hydrogen injection and blending systems
- Water purification and discharge systems
- Electrolyzer systems
- Electrical systems including SCADA and PLC
- Blended gas M&R station design
- Hydrogen piping design
- Be responsible for overseeing projects, preparing reports that present technical and project information in a clear and concise manner, and actively support the growth of our renewable energy group
- Provide technical leadership to support to evaluate new technologies
- Liaison with the natural gas operations teams in various regions to understand and evaluate local natural gas infrastructure
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and coordinate/execute engineering activities at multiple sites, staying within project scope, timeline, and budget
- Review and develop specifications for bidding and contractor selection for new installs and maintenance activities
- Always promote safety and environmental compliance by ensuring all safety and environmental policies and procedures are enforced
- Work with appropriate equipment manufacturers, vendors, and suppliers on specifying process equipment for Hydrogen projects
- Lead and participate in design teams, support engineering calculations, and the design process
- Provide engineering support during the construction and commissioning process
- Travel expected (up to maximum of 25% of time)
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
- BS degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program in mechanical, industrial, chemical, or electrical engineering
- 4+ years of technical engineering design experience within the natural gas industry
- Advanced understanding of natural gas systems and design standards for pressure regulating and interconnect facilities
- Understanding of end-use customer appliances and how gas quality can affect performance
- Knowledge of safety and engineering codes, including but not limited to, ASME, PHMSA DOT part 192, and NFPA
- General understanding of Hydrogen production methods and technology
- Experience in PFD and P&ID development, specification preparation and equipment selection for major unit processes
- Experience with automated control systems, PLC's, and instrumentation
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES
- High attention to detail, and ability to interpret drawings and instruction manuals
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong competencies in cost forecasting and budgeting
- Project Management knowledge and skills exhibited by the ability to develop and complete a design plan while having the adaptability to make appropriate changes when required
- Strong ability to take initiative and manage multiple projects successfully while maintaining an even-keel approach and commitment to deadlines
- Advanced engineering knowledge including exceptional mathematical proficiency; expert computer skills in working with word processing, spreadsheet programs, and MS Project
- Proficient in CAD and hydraulic modeling software (preferably Synergi Gas)
Salary depends on experience - $82K to $128K USD Annually
