REMOTE – Director & Assistant General Counsel, Legal, Internal Business
The Director & Assistant General Counsel, Legal Internal Business will report to and partner with the Senior Director and Associate General Counsel to support the Company’s growth with its infrastructure. The candidate will have a strong background in strategic support of large internal business departments such as IT, Marketing, Global Supply Chain, with an emphasis in HR/employee matters, as well as providing legal commercial advice to senior management about issues that touch our business. The successful candidate will have experience managing and mentoring a team of attorneys and/or contracts managers in a fast-paced environment. The candidate must be both results-driven and client-focused (internal and external) and be skilled at building and maintaining relationships.
Responsibilities:
· Understand the intricacies of the Company’s business model and strategic objectives and how to strategically support internal business departments to meet Company objectives
· Partner with various senior management business partners and leaders to strategically align growth and support for their organization through your own growing legal support team
· Partner with AGC and other senior management to move strategic projects and initiatives through to completion utilizing both legal and dotted line business resources independently as needed
· Extensive experience in supporting HR matters, including but not limited to, managing employee litigation, assisting with document responses, general employee issues on a wide variety of topics
· Understand the operations of internal business partners, and the strategic goals of the Company, and oversee the drafting and negotiation of legal documents accordingly
· Work on complex problems of broad scope where analysis of situations or information requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors
Required Knowledge and Skills:
· Ability to manage advise and mentor direct report attorneys and/or contract managers and dotted line support resources that operate in an intensive and time-sensitive contracting environment to support internal business departments both strategically and on a day-to-day operational level
· Ability to manage a fast-paced and growing team and strategize with key business partners
· Ability to work within and leverage cross-functional teams, and be persuasive up, down and across the organization within internal business departments
· Ability to understand and articulate not only what risk exists, but to balance that risk against the potential opportunities for the business and provide guidance on that basis as needed
· Ability to move quickly in a fast-paced environment that pivots at a moment’s notice to accommodate market requirements
· Ability to work proactively, collaboratively and persuasively with internal and external clients to solve problems while protecting the Company’s interests
· Team-oriented, with a good sense of humor and high level of integrity, responsibility and professionalism, not afraid to roll up their sleeves, review documents, etc., and help the team get things done as needed
· A “Get Things Done” mindset and ability to find and present simple, practical and actionable solutions to complex problems
· Willingness to be flexible and adaptive in a highly dynamic environment
· Ability to analyze complex facts and legal concepts accurately and timely, and then develop appropriate recommendations within a business solution context

· Excellent written and oral communication skills, effective interpersonal skills, problem-solving ability and good work habits
· Must be able to prioritize workload both personally and for the team using good judgment
Basic Qualifications:
- Law degree from an applicable law school and be licensed to practice law in the U.S.
- Eight to ten years’ experience in a law firm or in-house public or private company having substantial business operations.
- Procurement, licensing and/or technology licensing experience, both in negotiating, redlining and managing risk, partnering with the business and collaborating overall.
Experience and exposure working with all parts of internal business groups, such as supply chain, engineering, marketing, IT, HR, Finance, etc.
Understanding of the player/coach role, meaning that candidate expected to negotiate and manage business partners as well as manage legal personnel and develop strategies with senior management of internal business partners.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong background with employment, human resource and people matters of all kinds, related certifications a plus.
- Mentoring and management of attorneys and/or contracts managers or other legal support personnel.
