Summary
The Pre-Op/PACU Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care for a group of population-specific patients for the unit, from simple to complex issues in a safe and therapeutic environment. The professional RN uses knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, assesses data reflective of the patient's status and interprets information needed to identify each patients' requirements relative to their age specific needs. The RN engages in caring relationships with patient's, families, and significant others, works collaboratively with other health care workers, and uses sound judgments while performing nursing and medical interventions. The RN adheres to specialty standards and organizational standards, policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols. Reports to the Nurse Administrator. May participate in supervision of Licensed Nursing Assistants and unlicensed personnel.
Education
- Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing, BSN, professional certification preferred
Certification, Registration & Licensure
- Required: Current State of NH RN License
- American Heart Association BLS for Healthcare Providers (ACLS, PALS preferred)
Experience
- The Pre/Post-operative Staff Nurse must be a graduate of an accredited School of Nursing and currently licensed to practice nursing in the state.
- A minimum of one-year experience in acute care/PACU is preferred.
- Cardiac-monitored nursing care preferred.
- Must have the ability to work independently as well as function within a team; have the ability to assess patient needs, determine priorities, plan and direct pre/post-operative care of the patient; present good public relation skills; and possess the ability to handle stress.

The employee is occasionally required to climb, do repetitive motion, kneel, and smell. Specific vision abilities required by this job include color vision, depth perception, far vision, near vision, and peripheral vision. The employee is frequently exposed to airborne pathogens, blood borne pathogens, and bodily fluids. The employee may be exposed to airborne contaminants, electrical hazards - shock, moving mechanical parts, non-weather related heat or cold, slippery surfaces, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
