We are a 250 bedded Joint Commission/CMS accredited hospital located in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley within 30 minutes of major university towns. We are waiting for the Occupancy certificate for two new units, which will add 56 beds to our capacity.
The hospital is well regarded locally and across the state, has provided consultation or working tours to seven other states regarding our Psychosocial Rehab “Learning” programs, effectively recruits and retains professional staff, and works actively within the hospital and with our community partners to produce good clinical and quality of life outcomes for individuals.

Fresh graduates and nurses having experience in healthcare facility, acute care, long-term care or correction setting can apply for the position. Western State Hospital is seeking RN-I for the admission office. Registered Nurses are scheduled to work (2) 12 hour shifts and (2) 8 hour shifts per week and every other weekend.
Paid Shift Differential:
1st shift weekend $5.50/hr.
2nd shift weekdays $5.50/hr., and weekend/holidays $6.00/hr.
3rd shift weekdays $4.00/hr, and weekend/holidays $7.00/hr.

Minimum Qualifications
- Knowledge of basic nursing standards and fundamentals.
- Current, Virginia license to practice as a Registered Nurse or license eligible; multi-state compact endorsement is accepted.
- Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care utilizing knowledge of pharmacology, psychiatric and physical disorders and cultural needs of the psychiatric patient.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Associate’s Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution of higher education, work experience may substitute for education.
Preferred Qualifications

- Experience as a Registered Nurse in psychiatric, healthcare facility, acute care, long-term care or correction setting preferred.
- Bi-lingual Spanish and English highly desired.
