Location: Jersey City Armory

The City of Jersey City (“The City”) is seeking a laborer for the Division of Recreation in the Department of Recreation & Youth Development. This position, under direction, takes the lead and works with a group of laborers engaged in manual and unskilled work; does other related duties as required.

Job Duties:

• Cleaning and maintenance of the facility including sweeping, mopping of floors, bathrooms and other public areas, disinfecting of surfaces
• Coordinating with other laborers/cleaners to assure all responsibilities covered
• Cleaning spills, broken glasses, and other messes as quickly as possible
• Refilling supplies, such as toilet paper, paper towels, and soap
• Keeping and submitting lists of new cleaning supplies as needed
• Trash clean-up and removal
• Maintaining hard surfaces by sweeping and mopping floors
• Assistance setting up equipment as needed for track events
• Keeping to assigned schedule and rotations
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Experience: One year of experience in performing labor manual and unskilled labor work preferred.

Required License: Possession of a valid New Jersey Driver’s license.

• Must not have worked for The City of Jersey City in the last six (6) months
• 18 years of age
• Good written and verbal skills
• Knowledge of general cleaning
• Good communication skills
• Interpersonal skills
• Proactivity
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
• Ability to follow health and safety standards
• Time management
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
• Comfortable walking and standing for extended periods of time.

This is a Civil Service Job, and you must eventually pass and qualify for the applicable Civil
Service title.
