Recreation Aide

Position Purpose:

Assist in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of recreational, social, intellectual, therapeutic, emotional and spiritual programs, in accordance with the resident’s assessment and care plan, and as may be directed by your supervisors.


Qualifications

  • Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language
  • Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age-related needs of the residents served
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.

Educational Requirements:

High School Diploma, GED or equivalent


Experience Required:

General work experience preferred but not required; will train Professional Licensure and Certification Required: N/A


Interpersonal Relationships:

Communicates effectively with residents, families, visitors, co-workers, physicians, and other employees.

Essential Functions

  • Implement Recreation procedures as directed by the Recreation Director by creating decorations, setting up necessary equipment, creating ceramics, needlework, woodwork and other crafts, escorting residents to and from Recreation area, and awarding prizes.
  • Assist in scheduling movies, planning parties, and providing games/activities for residents.
  • Encourage residents to participate in recreational social activities so that all residents are involved in activities by engaging in and organizing games, crafts, religious services, parties, etc.

  • Assist in-room residents by visiting with them, writing letters, running errands, making appointments, etc., as necessary.
  • Participate and guide individual, and/or group, re-motivation and reality orientation sessions to promote the worth, self-esteem and reality level of the residents.
  • Complete required documentation as directed in the resident’s medical record.

Staff Development Functions

  • Participates in departmental meetings to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or improvement of services.
  • Assists in the orientation of new recreation staff members to the facility and ensures that appropriate education and mentoring is provided.
  • Attends and participates in all required mandatory in-service programs.

Accountability and Goals

  • Assumes responsibility for own practice by following facility standards, policies and procedures.
  • Supports the philosophy and mission of Highland Rehabilitation & Nursing Center and participates in the development and attainment of departmental and facility goals.

Safety and Infection Control

  • Maintains continuous practice of established universal precautions and infection control policies and procedures within the facility.
  • Ensures that all work and resident activity areas are maintained in a clean, safe, and sanitary manner. 3. Participates in the Infection Prevention and Control program.

Risk Management

  • Participates in all required fire and safety drills.
  • Acts as a resident advocate.
  • Maintains resident dignity and confidentiality.

Quality Improvement:

  • Gathers data for the QAA Committee.
  • Identifies, conducts, and participates in continuous quality improvement projects throughout the facility.
  • Demonstrates ability to cooperate with and assist fellow team members towards reaching 4. common goals that positively affect resident care and outcomes.

Resident Rights

  • Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information and ensures the same is followed throughout the facility.
  • Thorough knowledge of facility and state mandatory reporting practices regarding any suspected cases of abuse, mistreatment, or neglect.
  • Ensures that all residents are treated fairly with kindness, dignity, and respect.
