REAL ESTATE PROJECT ACCOUNTANT

The Project Accountant will perform a range of accounting and financial management functions for a vertically integrated multifamily real estate company in Houston, Texas. Duties are primarily focused on development accounting but include general ledger support for construction and asset management as well.
Agility is the key to success in our small, rapidly growing accounting department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with and support Controller, COO, and accounting team.
  • Prepare monthly development draws and invoice monthly development fees.
  • Monitor draw funding status and pay or ensure payment of corresponding disbursements monthly.
  • Prepare and post general ledger entries.
  • Reconcile project draw reports to the general ledger to verify all costs incurred have been funded and that costs are properly categorized.
  • Reconcile equity, debt, and other balance sheet accounts and prepare support packages as needed.
  • Download bank statements and reconcile bank accounts.
  • Maintain project accounting files.
  • Assist with quarterly investor reporting, including preparing income statements, balance sheets, statements of cash flows, and statements of owners’ equity.
  • Assist with compliance tracking for development agreements, joint venture agreements and loan agreements.
  • Produce a variety of routine and ad hoc accounting reports as needed.
  • Provide professional, friendly customer service to internal and external stakeholders.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance and prior real estate accounting experience.
  • Real estate software experience.
  • Ability to work independently and solve problems.
  • Excellent communication skills and willingness to work with other team members to achieve departmental deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (especially Excel) is required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
