Job Summary:
As a Quantitative Analyst you will build and maintain models necessary to accurately and timely forecast the gross margin of the business. Perform ad-hoc analysis and ensure data integrity of standardized reporting. Opportunity to present model and analysis to senior leadership. Assist the Manager of Analytics with reporting on the profitability of the business.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Build and maintain monthly / weekly PnL Attribution models and ensure timely reporting
- Maintain strong knowledge of wholesale power and gas market fundamentals, regulatory framework, and other factors impacting energy prices and the company’s mission and strategy
- Research complex business problems and identify opportunities to design, develop, and propose actionable solutions in support of pricing, portfolio management and margin analysis activities
- Work in close collaboration with the Wholesale Trading group, Risk, Finance, Load Forecasting, Sales, Marketing, Operations, and Key Account Managers
- Identify process and systems gaps that impair ability to either accurately or timely forecast forward PnL and liaise between departments to develop solutions
- Support audit requests and provide feedback to internal finance team to facilitate accurate reporting
- Assist in model streamlining / automation
- Perform ad-hoc analysis / reporting as requested
Requirements:
- Strong analytical and economic modeling capability with extensive experience with performing analysis and modeling in Microsoft Excel (VBA)
- SQL Proficiency – ability to write complex queries by extracting data from multiple sources
- Ability to work in a highly matrixed environment
- Strong ability to communicate & drive standardization & simplification efforts
- Strong solution design capabilities
- Passionate about driving change and influence across enterprise
- Ability to work with cross-functional teams to drive operationalization of products and help teams to transform processes
- Resourceful, quick learner able to efficiently seek out, learn, & apply new areas of expertise
- Working knowledge of North American power and gas market characteristics, rules, and cost components (preferred)
- Quantitative experience in retail energy (natural gas or electricity consumers North America) (preferred)
- 3-5 years’ experience in data analytics, writing/designing SQL queries, and Excel modeling
Education:
- Bachelor's Degree in a business/analytical field of study (e.g. Business, Finance, Accounting, Mathematics, Management Information Systems)
