Role Summary

This Manufacturing Engineer position will be working for LM Manufacturing, a part of a new start-up Joint Venture Seating JIT Assembly plant located in the Metro Detroit area. Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, develops and procures cost effective manufacturing equipment and processes/methods to achieve optimum line balance and throughput. Ensures manufacturing equipment processes are in accordance with Ergonomic practices, meets product specifications and achieves quality standards.


Under the direction of the Quality Engineer, performs audits and inspections as required to ensure conformance to required specifications and processes. Coordinates the documentation, disposition and return of defective product.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conducts Finished Product Audits (C.E.P.A) and works with supervisors on follow-up actions.
  • Checks H-Point and Seat Contour.
  • Audits Control Plan(s).
  • Gathers, documents, and disposes of scrap and defective material and/or product.
  • Works with Quality Engineers to ensure defective supplier materials are contained and the proper documentation processed.
  • Supports production quality activities related to root cause investigation.
  • Performs basic part layouts, measurements and inspections to determine compliance to specifications.
  • Maintains appropriate records of inspections as required.
  • Validates Torque tools to ensure calibrations are within specifications.
  • Coordinates gauge calibration process to ensure tools and gages in use are calibrated.
  • Supports Quality Liaison with customer trial runs and pilot builds.
  • Serves as a backup for Quality Liaison as needed.
  • Displays a positive attitude towards safety, works safely and follows all the Company's safety policies and procedures./
  • Complies with all Health, Safety and Environmental standards in accordance with company policies, the Occupational Health & Safety Act. and the Michigan Occupational Health & Safety Act.
  • Ensures all employees and visitors have a safe environment in that safety and housekeeping standards are maintained; and all hazards, unsafe actions, or unsafe conditions have been identified, corrected, and/or eliminated.
  • Responds to and investigates all reports of injuries, accidents, illnesses, near misses and property damage immediately.
  • Takes an active part in the division’s safety program by performing regular workplace inspections, effectively investigates accidents/incidents promptly, and assists in meeting or exceeding the division’s safety goals.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.


Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Associate degree or higher
  • Minimum of three (3) years of quality experience in an automotive manufacturing environment or quality data collection
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Demonstrated ability in basic inspection instruments, calipers, height gage, micrometers, and dial indicators.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good documentation and organization skills; analytical skills to support problem investigation.
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel and PowerPoint; and the ability to edit and download digital pictures.
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimension and Tolerance.

Additional Information

Work performed in a manufacturing plant environment. Frequently exposed to varying temperature within plant depending upon external weather condition. Continuously walks, stands, grips/grasps, pushes/pulls, bends/stoops, crouches, and lifts and carries up to thirty (30) lbs. within the manufacturing plant environment. Occasionally may carry up to fifty (50) lbs. Must be available to work overtime including weekends and holidays.
