Austin Bridge & Road has an outstanding opportunity for a Quality Control Technician at one of our jobs in Farmers Branch, Texas. The Quality Control Technician provides first-class quality control field observation / daily reporting services and assists the Project Leadership team with day-to-day functions.

The potential candidates for this role must be a proven leader, have an uncompromising emphasis on safety excellence and will have responsibilities that include but are not limited to:

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Detailed inspection & verification of materials, equipment & construction activities as they are performed to verify conformance with the client’s construction design documentation.
  • Responsible for observations of material testing activities on the project site and various material plants with verification of quality control standards during production to assure compliance with customer specifications.
  • Detailed daily reporting of observations of construction materials and the multitude of activities performed throughout each phase of construction.

Qualifications:

  • Engineers, engineering technician, or experienced craftsman with qualifications within the appropriate field equivalent to NICET Level II or higher construction materials technician or highway construction technician with a minimum of 2 years of experience within their area of expertise.
  • Ability to read / interpret construction plans, specifications, material submittals, RFI’s, & Change orders with an understanding of how each correlate in reference to overall construction.
  • General knowledge of TXDOT specifications.
  • General knowledge of construction material testing, daily reporting and construction procedures, with a strong background regarding pavement subgrades, pavement installation, & underground utility installations.
  • Proven ability to be a self-sufficient leader for major construction projects as a Quality Control Technician.
  • Ability to present and explain construction activity protocols during each phase of construction.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Inspect all field work in progress during day & night shifts to verify the Quality Control Program requirements are being met per the client’s project requirements. Photo documentation of on-going activities will be required.
  • Meet with all testing firms & client code enforcement officials during the scheduled testing and inspection processes.
  • Participate in Quality Control meetings with ABR and/or client representatives.
  • Evaluate self-written Quality Control Technician daily reports, test data, & associated documents prior to submitting to ABR management.
  • Recommend modifications of existing quality or production standards to achieve optimum quality.
  • Maintain constant communication with the QA/QC Supervisor and Plant Manager to ensure materials being used for the concrete and hot mix asphalt designs are working and will work for its intended purpose.

Education and Experience:

  • Engineering degree or a currently certified NICET Level 2 engineering technician, or experienced craftsman with qualifications within the appropriate field equivalent to NICET Level II or higher construction materials technician or highway construction technician with a minimum of 2 years of experience within their area of expertise.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in highway construction Quality Control.
  • Certifications in Soils, Concrete and Hot Mix Asphalt Testing highly preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer /iPad.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
  • Must be able to access and navigate each department at the organization’s facilities.
