Job description
“I read my code and it seemed just fine.” - D’velopers
Did you see that? We know you did! We are a team that celebrates curiosity and intelligence; the fact that you explore every possibility and find a fix to even the most obscure bug makes us better.
What's great is that Inventive respects and values a diversity of thought and we all aim to create an energizing workplace that brings out the best in all of us.
To respect your time and interest, our interview process is three simple steps:
- 30-minute call with Alyssa Bunn, our Director of Recruiting.
- 30-minute Zoom with James Shaw, our COO (and former VP of Engineering).
- 30-minute Zoom with Jason Fitch, our Director of Engineering.
Challenges and Opportunities
Getting shit done, brilliantly isn’t just a cheeky tagline. We love to roll up our sleeves, constantly iterate, and stay focused on the work that matters. We say what we mean, so get prepared to jump on board and trust your gut when it comes to GSD - let’s rock it out!
Here, you’ll collaborate with a team of engineers, project managers, and designers; and, at times, directly with our clients. We build real-world applications for our Inventive Works clients, Inventive Ventures partners, as well as charities and non-profits that Inventive Cares supports.
As a valued member of our team, you’ll be hands-on with the testing phase of our software development for web and mobile applications. You’ll read requirements with laser precision in order to fully understand features, develop and automate test cases, and be sure to ask any clarifying questions as you go so we only deploy high-quality solutions for our clients - ideally, with a shorter release time!
Most often, you’ll be the sole QA Engineer responsible for a project, so accountability and expertise are supremely important. You’ll collaborate daily with our engineering and project management teams through tools such as JIRA and Slack, so you’ll get to problem solve and communicate in real-time, too!
As our principal code detective, you’ll check your ego at the door. Here, we are only interested in finding the best answer versus always having the right answer.
Qualifications and Experience
Experience that’s required (and really important to have):
- Graduate from an accredited software engineering Bootcamp or four-year university*
- 2 - 5 years of dynamic experience working as a Quality Assurance Engineer
- 1 - 3 years of experience testing large, scalable, and distributed web and mobile apps
- 1+ years experience in Agile/Scrum teams; shipping features often
- Successful track record of owning QA projects or working in small pairs
- Expertise in a manual testing environment
- Proficiency in collaboration and bug tracking tools e.g. JIRA and Confluence
- Professional experience with scripting e.g. Python or Bash
- Professional experience with VMs e.g. AWS
- Professional experience with API and UI testing e.g. Postman or TestCafe
- Excellent understanding of CI/CD tools e.g. Git, Azure DevOps, and TeamCity
- Experience with or interest in learning automation
- Ability to work effectively with people and enjoy helping others achieve their goals
- Advanced English communication skills - written and verbal
- Creative problem-solving skills
- Desire to collaborate with and integrate into a fast-paced and high-performing team
- Demonstrable mastery of the required skillset can be substituted for formal education
Wildly impressive folks will also have experience with:
- 1+ years as a Quality Assurance Engineer in automation testing e.g. Selenium or Cucumber
- 1+ years as a Software Engineer e.g. front-end, back-end, or full-stack developer
- Quality Assurance in a tech consultancy or agency setting e.g. client-facing role
- Quality Assurance in a lead role
- Professional experience with VMs and containers e.g. Podman
- History of delivering high-value software systems with high test coverage
- Experience developing meaningful leadership and/or mentorship programs
You’ll totally fit into our team if you are:
- Searching for an amazing, “do good” culture
- Passionate about software development (it’s okay to be obsessed)
- Naturally pleasant, self-motivated, and driven
- Committed to continuous improvement in and out of work
- Demonstrate respect and professionalism in everything you do
- Dependable, available, and on time!
