Job description
Under supervision, the Purchasing and Inventory Law Enforcement Technician II (LET II) is responsible for the general oversight of the Sheriff's Office equipment and supply function to include issuing equipment and other supplies to department personnel, identifying and evaluating "Sheriff's Office specific" equipment, making equipment and supply purchases, and maintaining inventory records. The Purchasing and Inventory LET also assists administrative personnel with the oversight and inventory of other department assets as needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
As directed by administrative staff, works with vendors and obtains quotes for department equipment and supplies to include duty gear, radar units, badges, ammunition, and other items. Assists administrative staff with equipment and supply budget administration in compliance with the Boulder County Finance/Budget/Purchasing policies.- Requests equipment for test and evaluation for possible purchase from various vendors; assists in the evaluation of products and supplies for Sheriff's Office personnel.
- Analyzes past expenditures, expected needs, and future cost projections in order to develop detailed input into equipment and supply budget development.
- Reviews year-to-date spending reports and recommends adjustments as necessary to maintain balance at the end of the budget cycle.
- Works to ensure the most cost-effective alternatives are identified when planning expenditures.
- Orders and maintains the inventory of department equipment and supplies including an inventory of assigned equipment.
- Maintains a supply of uniforms, duty gear, body armor, badges, and other equipment officers and other staff need for their daily work function.
- Works with newly hired officers/staff to establish uniform and duty gear needs, issues same and maintains equipment issued inventory; instructs officers about what items they are authorized to order on-line.
- Collaborate with Boulder County finance and sheriff’s office divisions to complete inventory of county owned assets on a yearly basis.
- Maintains a supply of general office materials, including printer cartridges, toners, batteries, and other miscellaneous items.
- Pick up and deliver equipment to central storage area.
- Obtains bids for larger expenditures in compliance with applicable purchasing policies.
- Tracks equipment, warranty and service schedules and arranges for replacements, service or repair as needed.
- Communicates and maintains working relationships with others in carrying out job functions.
- Frequently interacts and works with internal and external persons, agencies, and vendors to carry out the functions of the position.
- Reconciles invoices with product received and works through appropriate channels to resolve discrepancies.
- Performs all job duties in compliance with safety guidelines and with an ongoing awareness of safety practices.
- Knows and follows department policies and regulations, as well as sound work and safety practices in order to accomplish the job objectives and avoid injury or loss.
- Wears proper protective equipment when policy requires or conditions indicate a need exists and utilizes proper body mechanics and ergonomics while performing work.
- When potentially unsafe conditions are observed makes efforts to avoid or correct them if they are controllable, and draws the attention of responsible supervisor/safety representative immediately.
Preferred that an applicant should have two to three years professional experience in private or public sector contract administration, purchasing, vendor management, procurement card, accounting, finance, supply chain management, or a closely related field. High school diploma or GED equivalent. Must possess a valid Colorado driver's license at time of appointment.
Knowledge, skills and ability include:
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.- Ability to perform varied procurement and clerical tasks, sometimes under pressure of time and heavy workload.
- Knowledge of general public sector purchasing and contracting and supply chain basics.
- Knowledge of clerical/office practices and procedures including basic office workflow procedures.
- Knowledge of inventory management data processing methods, information storage, and retrieval techniques.
- Knowledge of proper inventory procedures and management.
- Skill in basic PC based software applications such as Microsoft Word/Excel, knowledge of internet use, email and credit card transactions for ordering.
- Skill in communication as applied to the interaction with co-workers, supervisors, the general public, and others, sufficient to exchange and/or convey information and to receive work direction.
- Must be able to learn quickly and retain knowledge of varied and sometimes complex procedures

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:
Most work is performed in a normal office environment. About 60% of the work is performed at a desk. Daily work often involves moving between buildings and rooms. Occasional local driving is required to pick up or deliver material.
Activities include, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing stairs or ladders, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, grasping, talking, hearing/listening, and seeing/observing.
