The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, a non-profit membership service organization located near the White House is seeking a Publications Coordinator for its Printing and Publications Department.


This role will have the opportunity to coordinate, review, edit and proof two bi-monthly publications-the Daughters newsletter and the award winning American Spirit Magazine with 50,000 subscriptions. They will also oversee and manage the ads received from various levels of the society for inclusion in the newsletter.


This position is eligible for a hybrid remote schedule once the incumbent is knowledgeable of procedures and processes.


Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Edits all elements for style, substance and organization; rewrites and proofreads newsletter and magazine manuscript text.
  • Oversees all aspects of pre-production process; organizes copy flow; coordinates production schedules and deadlines; provides changes and/or corrections prior to final layout; resolves issues.
  • Compiles comments, features, articles, query letters or other materials and forwards to the publisher.
  • Works closely with the membership in receiving and processing incoming ads for newsletter; performs basic layout work, and coordinates with publisher on ad placement and production schedule.
  • Processes and reconciles all advertising payments and deposits, and maintains appropriate payment records.
  • Manages social media postings to correspond with specific magazine editions.


Qualifications and Job Requirements


Education

  • College degree in English, journalism, communications or related field, or an equivalent of education plus experience is required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Minimum of two years working on print and/or digital publications doing writing, proofreading, and editing publications is required.
  • Experience working with publishing vendors is required.
  • Strong knowledge of standard print publishing concepts, best practices, and procedures.
  • Advanced proficiency in publishing software, Microsoft Office Suite, InDesign, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Advanced project management skills which include a high level of accuracy, attention to detail, ability to coordinate projects effectively, and meet deadlines.
  • Proven command of editorial, grammatical, writing skills and techniques;
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively and professionally with members, leadership, and the public.

Experience working in a non-profit/membership organization is a plus.
