Summary/Objective

The public relations coordinator is typically responsible for creating and maintaining a positive public image for the organization. The public relations coordination is responsible for producing all of the organization's communications and managing accurate, high quality content and design for all Web sites, social media, and other electronic media. The Public Relations Coordinator also develops all marketing and outreach plans and activities to promote the agency and its programs to the public, participants, donors, and employees. The Public Relations Coordinator maintains a consistent, professional, and visually appealing design across all platforms, written and electronic/digital and manages the agency’s branding and image management.

Essential Functions

  • Implements annual communications strategy to meet the needs of all programs, locations, and administrative functions.

  • Designs, produces, and edits videos and similar media for agency programs as requested by the CEO/CCO.

  • Exclusively responsible for maintaining current and accurate information on the agency’s website and intranet platforms.

  • Self-initiates and maintains communication with all program staff in order to accomplish this task.

  • Produces accurate, timely content for informational materials about the agency and its programs and reviews all printed materials for consistency, accuracy, and appropriateness prior to distribution.

  • Manages agency special events as assigned, working closely with the program directors and other appropriate staff to promote events and ensure successful outcomes, including media coverage, marketing, as appropriate.

  • Leads the writing, planning, design of multimedia content production and publication for the agency’s internet and online presence. This includes ensuring photography and video content are current and available and directing content management systems.

  • Drafts media advisories and public service announcements and assists in the preparation of informational pieces as assigned. Ensures the agency has a significant presence in unpaid media and meets annual targets.

  • Attends and covers outreach activities on agency platforms.

  • Stays informed at a high level on the agency’s programs and projects to ensure needs are being represented.

  • Ensures agency information classification system is applied and clearly marked as per policy on all media productions.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.

The employee must occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full time position. Typical work hours will be Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. However, in order to meet the needs of the agency, permanent or temporary changes and/or modifications to the schedule may occur as dictated by management.

Travel

Travel is primarily within the five county jurisdiction. Out-of-area and overnight travel is intermittent. Must be willing and available to participate in required and/or requested professional development opportunities

Education and Experience

Baccalaureate degree in business administration, communications, public relations, marketing, journalism, or a related field preferred. Minimum of 1 to 2 years of successful, relevant experience required.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Must demonstrate superior writing and editing skills, Must possess substantial experience in Web site design, content creation tools and management, experience with multiple platforms and social media management.

Additional Requirements

Valid Kentucky driver’s license, reliable transportation, satisfactory criminal background, and physical examination. Pass a pre-employment drug test and random drug testing as required. State required minimum vehicle liability insurance and uninsured motorist insurance. Any/all other testing or applicable checks required by local, state, or federal law.
