Momentum for Health, a large nonprofit behavioral health agency located in the heart of Silicon Valley, has an opportunity for a FT Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in San Jose.

  • This role will serve our Transitional Age Youth (TAY) programs at 2 of our San Jose locations
  • Full time (40 hrs/week) is preferred, though part-time can be considered

  • Manageable caseload with dedicated admin time during your workday
  • Hybrid or onsite work is preferred, though remote telehealth-based work is being supported at this time
  • Our TAY programs are part of a larger continuum of care at Momentum that also includes a multitude of services and levels of care for individuals 18+: crisis residential programs, a crisis stabilization unit, supportive housing, employment services, adult outpatient services, and addictions treatment
  • Enjoy a team-based atmosphere with the full support of nurses, case managers, therapists, and admin staff - so that you can focus on your patients rather than administrative tasks.
  • Collaborate and consult with 30+ psychiatrist colleagues at Momentum, many of whom hold current or former academic faculty positions. Case conferences and educational talks by guest speakers are held twice monthly.

  • Qualified candidates must be Board Certified in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and have a valid CA medical license and DEA certificate.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Perform comprehensive psychiatric assessments and evaluations of new referrals and established clients and make determinations of needed psychiatric treatment.*
    • Assess the need for medications; prescribe and monitor medications, as appropriate, and provide education to the client about the medications.
    • Provide psychiatric care aimed at client goals and objectives.
  • Participate as an active member of the multi-disciplinary team at assigned program(s).*
    • Consult with other physicians, treatment team members or support staff, both internally and externally.
    • Consult with appropriate professional staff on unusual, complex, or critical cases.
  • Interface directly with clients and provide counseling, particularly during times of conflict and crisis intervention.*
  • KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED: (E = Essential; D = Desired)
    • M.D. degree and at least two years’ medical residency experience, including six months’ psychiatric outpatient experience. (If not currently enrolled in an accredited residency program, applicant must meet Board Eligibility Criteria for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology.) (E)
    • Valid Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certificate and current license to practice medicine in California with no disciplinary actions, as specified by MediCal/Medicare.
  • Knowledge of:
    • Medications, medication contraindications, and medication education; (E)
    • Clinical techniques for assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of people with mental illness; problem resolution and conflict resolution techniques; (E)
