Kemin Food Technologies (KFT) is seeking a Proteins Applications Manager. This position is responsible for facility management and application projects within the KFT proteins facility. This role requires competency in operating, troubleshooting, and repairing processing equipment. A broad knowledge of the protein industry through formulation, technical and/or commercial sales expertise and the ability to collect, assess, and learn new information quickly is required. Managing and initiating multiple projects focused on business development with cross functional interactions is imperative to the success of this position.

- Partner with commercial technical team members, R&D team, and engineering group to identify, prioritize, organize, and conduct trials
- Supervise operations in the facility and ensure that all required equipment is in place, properly cleaned and functioning for trials
- Overall organization, and maintenance of laboratory space and equipment
- May include (but not limited to) sourcing, purchasing, and inventory management of raw materials, ingredients and supplies for trials
- Manage scheduling of third-party vendor to maintain compliance of cleaning requirements documented in SSOPs of equipment and facility
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment, which may include replacement of parts and motors, removal of dust, grease, and food particles from machines
- Collect and maintain test application data when appropriate
- Coordinate and train Kemin employees and customers as necessary on product applications in processed meats
- Bachelor’s degree in Food/Meat Science, or related field.
- 3+ years of related experience in industrial environments with focus in meat and/or food processing or a Master’s degree in meat science.
- Ability to troubleshoot and repair equipment
- Strong attention to detail
- Good interpersonal skills with excellent oral and written communication skills
- Computer proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word processing
- Fluent in English
- Independent, self-starter with a hand-on mentality
- Able to work in a food processing environment (wet slippery surfaces, presence of meat juices, loud noises, cold and hot temperatures, etc.)
- Ability to perform tasks such as lifting, bending, stooping, and climbing; able to lift 50 lbs.
- Previous production or applications lab and people management
- Experience in food or meat science, product formulation, and analytical sampling
- Experience with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s), Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (SSOP’s), and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP)
- TRAVEL: Up to 40% domestic travel
