Protection/Controls Designer and Drafter
Job description
Summary – Job Responsibilities – Activities:
- Design and develop AC/DC control schematics for custom projects per customer specifications utilizing AutoCAD.
- Develop, maintain, and improve product designs related to protection and control systems.
- Select and specify control components to meet specific project requirements
- Design control panel layout.
- Collaborate with customers, engineers, and others about performance and functionality of control schemes.
- Trouble shoot with customers and coworkers to resolve control issues or make improvements.
- Generate shop drawings and as-built drawings using AutoCAD.
- Participate with cross function resources: Electrical Technicians, Automation Engineers, Sales, Production and Purchasing to analyze, document and resolve product reliability issues.
- Apply relevant industry standards to product design.
- Participate in customer factory acceptance testing.
- Develop mechanical drawings using AutoCAD.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 4+ years professional experience in designing electrical control schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Associate Degree in Design & Drafting Technology and/or Electrical Technology
- Knowledge of the National Electric Code and UL 508A
- Knowledge of Power System Single/Three Line Diagrams
- Knowledge of Power System Protection Relays
Required Skills, Competencies, Authorities and Training Needs:
- Ability to design control schematics
- Proficiency in AutoCAD
- Knowledge of general control components such as relays, PLCs, circuit breakers, fuses, terminal blocks, lights, indicators, pushbuttons, switches, and contactors.
- Knowledge of power systems is a plus.
- Mechanical design utilizing AutoCAD is plus.
- Self-motivated
- Willing to help/support others as needed.
- Additional Computer Skills with Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word

Pay: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
