Job description
Under general direction of the Faculty Director of the Institute of Transportation Studies (ITS), and co-Directors of the BicyclingPlus Research Collaborative, the Associate Director will manage and oversee the day-to-day activities of the Active Transportation Resource Center (ATRC), including strategic planning, program operations, course development, and outreach and education. The Associate Director will lead executive committee meetings, lead practice-focused workshops and trainings, facilitate the Active Transportation Program (ATP) Technical Advisory Committee meetings and other similar meetings, organize symposiums, manage the equipment loan program, among other tasks. The Associate Director will manage program deliverables and institute processes to improve the communication and dissemination of information to stakeholders, maintain and support relationships with funding agencies and partners, and comply with funding agency reporting requirements. The mission of the ATRC is to bring education, technical support, and guidance to active transportation project development and implementation across California. It is being administered through a partnership between Caltrans, the California Department of Health (CDPH), California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) and UC Davis. This position will require close working relationships between all partner agencies.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education/Experience:
- Master’s degree in urban planning, engineering, transportation technology and policy or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience (8+ years) in the practice of active transportation at the local level working for a local or regional government or consulting for such entities. Knowledge of active transportation funding, planning, and engineering processes in California or equivalent knowledge and experience.
- Personnel and budget management experience. Experience managing and executing intergovernmental coordinated programs.
- Experience using organizational, time management and event planning skills to organize and coordinate individuals and groups to develop collaborations and/or proposals/applications.
- Experience creating and/or writing presentations, informational documents, technical reports, and correspondence. Computer skills including word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentations, website, electronic mail, and internet.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :
- Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills, with skills to draft, rewrite and edit professional correspondence, reports, communications, and other materials.
- Strategic planning and evaluation skills to analyze, define, and assess problems, issues, and needs, and define needed actions.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Preferred Education/Experience:
- Professional certification in urban planning (e.g., AICP) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience applying research and teaching (in academic or practice) in fields transportation planning and engineering.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA) :
- Familiarity and a historical knowledge of California’s ATP, Caltrans, and other state and local agency missions and cultures and ability to bridge them effectively to manage the ATRC.
