The Department of Human Services (DHS), Office of General Counsel (OGC) is seeking candidates for the position of Project Manager (Non -IT) 2 - Limited English Proficient and Sensory Impaired (LEPSI) Manager. EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
Pay Grade: MThis position reports to the Deputy General Counsel. The selected candidate will be responsible for all aspects of and serve as the subject matter expert for DHS regarding Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and provide guidance and technical assistance to the agency and its division for compliance. Under general supervision, you will be responsible for all aspects of various projects of a moderately complex nature. Responsible for assembling project team, assigning individual responsibilities, identifying appropriate resources needed, and developing schedule to ensure timely completion of project. Communicates with Program Managers and other managerial staff as needed. Assign work of subordinate staff. Will manage large numbers of agency staff or have large scope of responsibility within agency.Roles and Responsibilities: Serve as subject matter expert for DHS regarding the Americans with Disability Act (ADA) and the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments Act (ADAAA) for sensory impairments and provide guidance and technical assistance for the use of auxiliary aids and services for agency compliance. Create, update and implement departmental policies and procedures as it pertains to Limited English Proficient/Sensory Impaired (LEP/SI). Create and update LEP/SI training. Serve as point of contact with vendors providing interpretation/translation services to the agency and its customers. Serve as staff to the Georgia Commission for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing responsible for meeting logistics, and all correspondence for programs and initiatives. Investigates civil rights complaints regarding language access and sensory impairments and draft reports. Responsible for all aspects of various projects of a moderately complex nature.Responsible for assembling project team, identifying appropriate resources needed and developing schedule to ensure timely completion of project.Communicate with program managers and other managerial staff as needed.Performs other professional duties as assigned by supervisor.Core Competencies: Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations, administrative law, judicial procedure, and rules of evidence.Knowledge of legal research methods and procedures.Ability to analyze legal documents.Ability to write effectively and provide information concisely.Ability to extract information, read and comprehend materials.Ability to prioritize and successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously.Ability to interact tactfully, patiently, and courteously with constituents and employees at all levels of the organization.Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.Proficiency using Lexis Nexis.Proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite and/or standard software applications typically used in a corporate office environment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in a related area from an accredited college or university.OR Two (2) years of related experience.Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who, in addition to meeting the minimum qualifications, demonstrate some or all the following skills/experience: Excellent Customer service skills.High level of cultural competency.Bi-cultural or multi-cultural background.Bi-lingual or multi-lingual skills.Familiar with industry standard regarding interpretation and translation.Previous work experience working with state agencies for compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.Previous experience working with state agencies for compliance with the ADA and ADAAA.Previous experience working with statewide advocacy agencies.Experience with public speaking.Experience with providing training.Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and be available for statewide travel as requested.All candidates must possess strong communication, writing, organizational, time-management, and interpersonal skills. The successful candidate will be able to work independently but also collaboratively with a talented team of professionals.
